MUSIC FROM TODAY'S STARTING POINT WITH SOLEDAD O'BRIEN
CNN Contributor Ron Brownstein's playlist today includes Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On." The song was from the album of the same title, and was a very political album for Gaye. It was named one of the 500 greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone in 2003.
Brownstein also chose the song "Night Moves" by Bob Seger. It's the song that made Seger famous.
Panelist Jamal Simmons with Govote.com chose more modern music, starting with Kanye West's "Stronger." The song is from West's 3rd album and won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2007.
The second song from Jamal's playlist is "Dream" by Alice Smith. On her website, Smith says her music has "notes of ‘60s pop, Burt Bacharach-style melodies and that intoxicating element of attitude."
Third song from Jamal's playlist is Wyclef Jean's "Celebrate." This song is from Jean's "The Preacher's Son" album, his fourth solo album in 2003.
Lastly, David Frum's playlist song today was from Claudio Monteverdi's "Vespers of the Blessed Virgin." Monteverdi was an Italian composer who wrote the opera "L'Orfeo."
