Richard Land, the Southern Baptist Convention's top public policy ethicist, ignited controversy when he condemned the response of many black leaders to the Trayvon Martin case as "shameful" and asserted that President Obama "poured gasoline on the racialist fires" when he addressed Martin's slaying.
After initially defending his comments, Land apologized in a letter to Bryant Wright, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Sr. Pastor Wright joins Starting Point today to discuss Land's apology and to respond to calls by prominent religious leaders for Land to resign.
