The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is fighting an organization of atheists in court over the famed World Trade Center cross. The museum is seeking to have a lawsuit filed by the group American Atheists thrown out.
The organization's suit claims that including the 17-foot-tall, cross-shaped steel "artifact" in the museum's collection violates the First Amendment.
According to the museum, the cross is a key component in the retelling of the story of 9/11, particularly "the role of faith in the events of the day and during the recovery efforts."
Soledad O'Brien and the Starting Point team discuss the atheist group's claim on the show this morning.
