Steve Forbes on his new book 'Freedom Manifesto,' says ultimate question for this presidential election is: What kind of country do we want?

Forbes Media chairman and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes wants to know one thing: What kind of country do we want? And what is the best for the public good?

In his new book "Freedom Manifesto," Forbes argues that free markets is the key forward for the United States, and big government is not.

"In 1980, Ronald Reagan had social conservative support," Forbes tells Soledad O'Brien on "Starting Point" this morning. "But the economy was the issue. That's what he ran on. That's what he won on. And I think you're going to see the same thing here, particularly after Labor Day. People are going to focus as we do in this book, which I call it a list of names, is what kind of country do we want, one that is dominated by big government or free markets? Which direction? What is the best for the public good? Which best serves the public good? And that's the ultimate question I think that will be in the forefront, especially in October."
