From CNN's Political Ticker:
(CNN) – San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, a Democrat, predicted Thursday Latinos will play an expanding role in the political future of Texas, a reliably red state.
"I think when you have that ground work and when you have the right candidates to excite folks, then you're going to start to see progress and within the next six to eight years, I believe that Texas will at least be a purple state, if not a blue state," Castro said on CNN's "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien."
Castro, who gave the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in September, argued the GOP's "tone on issues like immigration" and Republican positions against the 2010 health care law have turned Latinos away from the party. The new law, he says, will cover nine million more Latinos, which he called a "big deal" for a demographic that largely relies on the emergency room as "their primary care physician."
Latinos represent a growing portion of the national electorate, including 10% in this year's election, according to CNN exit polls. Of those who voted, President Barack Obama won 71% of their support, while Mitt Romney carried 27%. This year marked the first time the Latino electorate reached a double digit figure; in 2008, they represented nine percent of the vote.
Castro said in order to gain more support from Latinos, Republicans have to become a bigger tent party. "They can't tow the line of the tea party and expect they're going to be able to appeal to Latinos and other groups."
While that may be the case on a national level, Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas said the Lone Star State should be considered a model for the GOP in learning how to be more inclusive.

To be clear, enforce the existing laws and don't ask for special privileges for a certain group of people based on their race/ethnicity and then call people racists because they want the law to be enforced. President Obama took an oath to enforce the law. He has broken that oath by refusing to enforce it, even memorializing his refusal in a presidential decree.
"GOP's Tones on immigration"? So if you don't agree with allowing millions of illegal aliens to remain in the country and giving them amnesty, you're a bigot? Is it really the position of most American citizen latinos in this country that we should allow foreign nationals from spanish speaking countries in Latin America(mainly Mexico) to avoid deportation because they identify with these people and have a common ethnic history/skin color? I'm from Texas and I know plenty of Mexican Americans who don't agree with amnesty, which is exactly what it is.
Let them stay because they're like me? I don't see any whites, or anyone else, asking for leniency for illegal aliens from Europe or elsewhere who have broken immigration law. When did we cease to be a country that has a right to control its own borders and decide who will be allowed to come and who will not, like any other country? This will not end well for this country. If having millions of Mexicans/Latin Americans in this country were a good thing, there would be at least one country down there that wasn't a basket case economically.
There is a reason immigration laws exist, so that a country prospers from new immigrants, not suffers financially when these people immediately go on public assistance. Be indignant all you want, but just call a spade a spade. Most of these people are low income, working low paying jobs who will get back every penny they pay in taxes with their IRS refund when they are citizens, like half the country already does. Then, based on the size of the average Mexican family, they will go on public assistance.
Mitt was right regarding the 47%. I cannot believe that this is even being considered. We need to split the country in half and let the productive law abiding people live in one half, and the rest in the other half with the illegals and see how things work when the evil racist bigoted conservatives aren't around to pay the bills for those of you who want to live your lives sucking on the government tit.
Latinos voted against china imperio. We know that because what it is happening in LATAM, also the china imperio is supporting with money talks and technology the mexican and US mafias, also they are bribing judges, police like in San Antonio, Texas. I have a case well known in CPS San Antonio, TX with no response at all of the mayor and other authorities, while they are receiving millions of dollar of China.
