Hi Dr. Gupta,
I just wanted to express my concerns on the legalization of marijuana. With this drug sight affects are not excluded.
Depending on the strength of the THC one could experience a bad bad trip resulting in severe panic attack and hallucinating. Your memory is severely affected I.e.putting your baby in the bath tub parent gets distracted and forgets the baby in the tub. I often wondered about those parents who forget their babies in the backseat of their cars and tragedy resulted. I also think about how marijuana will affect the mind as one gets older in relation to Alzheimer's .
Let's not forget for some children who start with this drug as their first choice how easily they become tempted to try another one. My next concern are medical professionals I.e. surgeons who indulges. Would you want a physician who uses this drug recreationally to perform surgery on you or your loved one? How are we as a notion going to keep up with the price that we will pay by legalizing this drug. I am not against medical marijuana however I really feel that those patients should have a life threatening illness. There half to be understood boundaries so doctors are held accountable for their choices. Lets do a study,take an individual that has been doing this drug for 10yrs.take them off. How do they respond? What do you begin to notice different about them? The intelligence of our children will be affected.
The ability of one to retain information for test or recall from reading a book will be affected. The laziness of our society in regards to working will also grow. This truly is a drug that we should not be playing with if we are wanting our nation to grow in the right direction.Families struggle enough with alcohol issues in their lives why would we want to exacerbate the problem. How will this drug affect unborn babies who's mothers indulge? To many questions and not enough answers.
Let's not play with fire.
