New book traces the history of the stimulus package, examines its affect on the economy

It's been three years since President Obama's $787 billion stimulus plan was passed, and it's still a lightning rod political topic.

A recent report from the credit rating agency "Fitch" says the stimulus helped prevent the recession from becoming a depression, but it's critics on the campaign trail maintain that the package has not worked to improve the economy.

TIME correspondent Mike Grunwald's new book, "The New New Deal," looks into how the stimulus was passed, and what happened after it went into effect.

Grunwald sits down with the Starting Point team this morning to discuss the stimulus' legacy and to explain the comparisons he's drawn between Obama's package and FDR's New Deal.
