This morning on "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien," CNN's Candy Crowley talks about her experience moderating the second presidential debate with Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama.
Many folks are talking about Crowley's statement that President Obama was right when he claimed that he called the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi an "act of terror."
"I was trying to move this along," Crowley says. "The question was Benghazi...there was this point they both kind of looked at me, you know, Romney's looking at me, the president is looking at me, and I wanted to move this along. Can we get back to the - so I said, he did say "acts of terror", called it an "act of terror", but Governor Romney, you were perfectly right that it took weeks for them to get past the tape."
See more in the clip above.
"I was trying to move this along," Crowley says. .. Yes, move it along because it is a huge exposure of the incompetence of the Obama regime and the deceit they use – with the help of the leftwing media – to cover up their wrong doing. Is there anything the democrats and CNN won't do to seize power, anything, that is, but tell the truth which will sink them every time.
There have been some suprising moments, when I have started to believe that there is some sort of journalisitic objectivity lurking around at CNN. Then I watch last night on CNN and i'm left shaking my head again at the total one sided leftist animal that CNN is, rear its ugly head.
One example: Black commentator, don't know his name, on live broadcast (paraphrasing here) – Mitt Romney blames gun violence on single mothers. There are many other examples, but what is the point, really?
CNN you're disgusting. And Candy, you're response to the Benghazi issue was transparent as soon as you opened your mouth, and then proceeded to let the audience clap. Everyone watched President Obama, generally make the statement about the event in Benghazi. If he believed it an act of terror, by an organization like Al Quida, he should have said it right there. He didn't. He referred to the whole act, as something terroristic in nature. The following statements made for two weeks afterward was the Administration's official stance – until the truth could no longer be contained. Do you think that maybe they knew what it was from the get go, and wanted to stuff it down for the sake of damage control, so close to the election? Hmnn, I wonder.
By the way, what's the margin of error in the flash poll of who won the debate? I don't think I've seen that yet. That's important you know. Since, all along CNN has been saying how Mr. Obama won. At best, you could say it was a draw on your headlines. At least W. Blitzer came out and said it on live TV.
It was completely unprofessional for Candy Crowley to interject herself into Mitt Romney's response. It's even worse today to see her continue to try to make excuses, after her tepid retraction with Anderson Cooper last night. Journalistic integrity is gone in this country. We as a nation really need to demand that the people who report the news, are held to a journalistic code of ethics. They've been getting away with this stuff for way too long. Might I add the obvious, in this alternate universe that Obama's sycophants seem to inhabit, but I actually remember Sept. 2012. It wasn't that long ago, folks. If you tell a lie long enough, I suppose it becomes true, but guess what! I remember that the blame for the attack in Benghazi was placed on a spontaneous demonstration about a video FOR WEEKS. The emphasis was on the idea that this was not a protest against the United States government. That was the line we were getting. The White House even tried to coerce Google to remove the video. It took weeks before we were eased into the idea that this was a planned terrorist attack and was absolutely an attack on our government. This isn't the end of this Libya debacle. CNN can try to cover for Obama until election day, but voters aren't that stupid. As Judge Judy so cleverly put it, "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining" CNN!!
In the end, it all boils down to this; the President mislead, or lied to, the American People concerning his actions after the assault on our embassy in Libya. Candy Crowley was either complicit, or aggressively conspiratorial, in the President's actions. The media's spin doctors can deal with it as they see fit. However, in the long run history will put a black mark beside their name.
I was so exciting to see a woman moderating the debate. I defended you against bias comment from my friends before the debate. However, I was so disappointed that I was wrong when you took charge to answer the Lybia question. Moderator has no business interupting candidates. Your action has shown how weak our President is. He always needs a telepromter and you're his virtual one.
Candy and Obama did a great job debating Romney. When is the Republican party going to demand neutral mediators instead of people from the liberal media. Listening to her help Obama with his lies just made me all the more committed to vote for Romney.
On my previous comment (Harry Wall) who is the moderator Candy Crowley?
Your comment is awaiting moderation.
Candy Crowley needs to go and take pro Obama CNN with her.
Candy Crowley was a disgrace last night and worse, CNN has become a disgrace by covering for their own. There are currently 3 links as lead stories about this stupid binders comment by Romney and 0 about the moderator controversy. Heck- there's no longer a decent article in the main links about the debate at all- just nonsense stuff.
Crowley CLEARLY covered Obama's ass on a VERY important issue. His administration is caught in a lie and he keeps perpetuating it. To be bailed out by the moderator is a sham. That exchange can't be undone by a brief explanatino that's being covered up by her own network (I guess you all are learning from the Obama campaign quite well).
Candy Crowley, I hope it was worth it. You just discredited your entire career in order to shill for "your" President. This is what you will be remembered for...anything else in your career...wiped clean off the slate.
Ms. Crowley seriously damaged both herself and her profession last night. She'd have done better to honor the debate moderator's contarct that she ignored. Pride goeth before the fall.
Candy Crowley needs to go and take pro Obama CNN with her.
Candy it was obvious the point Mitt Romney was trying to make and it was wrong of you to step in. The President and his administration for two weeks tried to sell a narrative that the terrorist attack on our embassy was nothing more than a protest that went out of hand. That was a lie and the american people know it!
Well if she was correct then good call but if she was incorrect and many feel she was well bad call. It's on tape did he or did he not call it a terror attack and a demonstration I think he said it was both? But both he and Romney made it polictical that I do know but Obama likes to point fingers at other for calling him on possible mistakes.
I'm really dissappointed in her for doing this. Now she is just trying to find a reason for what she did. Just tell the truth you are basis!
Candy's comments stunned me. To tell a debater that he is wrong about a fact during a debate is beyond the pale. The president's comment was a direct contradiction to what the vice president said in the previous debate a week ago. Those who applauded despite agreeing there would be no applause reveal that they only want rules if it helps their side win. The most memorable part of a debate should not be a moderator interjecting herself. Very disappointed.
I am tired of seeing this on top of my comment "Your comment is awaiting moderation."
Shame on you Candy Crowley, Ths is why I view Fox News, CNN as well As Candy Crowley are Bias, I at this point was wondering if Romney was debating you or The Current President. You took it upon yourself to "Fact Check" Gov. Romney right there on the stage, Shame on you, But thanks for the reminder of why I watch Fox News, Fair Not Bias.
I know this was hard job but you should not say anything that would look like you are helping one over the other. That is not moving forward fairly or helping in this debate I dont understand how all your friends and workers can say the things they did last night how good you handled the debate.
hat? I heard her say, "Gov Romney you are wrong in the assessment in your comment about Lybia". Why the spin? No reason for her to correct either of them. Butt out! Unless you are pro Obama, which she is!
Candy Crowley simply couldn't help herself. She is a big Obama supporter in her heart, and couldn't remain neutral for even part of the debate. The day after the Benghazi attack, Obama, Susan Rice et. al. were still peddling the discredited story that the murder of Ambassador Stevens and other Americans was a spontaneous eruption due to an video that makes fund of Muhammad. He DID NOT say that the attack was a terror attack the day after, he simply referred to Terror in general. Candy Crowley is a disgraceful amateur who, if she worked anywhere other than CNN, would have lost her job over this, in disgrace!!
your representative, candy crawley proved herself and your network to not be impartial in the debate but very much in favor of making barack obama look good in the debate. her interjection in obabas outright lie on libya was an attempt to shut up romney. He was right in what he said. Obama was trying to cover up the ineptitude of his administration. Obama canno tell the truth about what he wants to do because he is a socialist. he does nhot want people to have free choice but to have the government tell us all what to do. shame on candy crawley for her actions and for her personal responsibility with her obesity problem.
Lets see, weve had Matha Raddunce, Eaten way too much Candy Crawly. Who is the next moderator, Soledad Obrien? Andrea Mitchell? Joy Behar? Joe Biden?.........
Taking things in context, when the President mentioned "acts of terror" in the rose garden, it had to be generic and not specific to Benghazzi, otherwise why did they speak of the video and protests etc. If he meant Beghazzi was an act of terrorism in the Rose Garden, then why the misinformation that followed by the UN Ambassador, Press Secretary Carney and the President on the View and with Letterman. Hence the President was really stretching and so was Ms Crowley when she said today "it was not much of a stretch to imply the President had called it (Benghazzi) an act of terror. She extrapolated with poor logic.
Why did we need to move along such an important issue that was given little time so that we could talk about gun control .....for an extended time!? What a bummer.
Libya is going Nowhere but further into the spotlight. Crowley Lied, should be fired. Obama Lied, should be impeached. I hope Crowley does not have a Heart Attack or Stroke or Diabetic seizure. I hope she survives here stomach staple procedure, or brain transplant, because America needs more of her type.............Blatant Lying Son of a Bitch!
As a Professional Journalist and a Moderator, Candy Crowley was totally wrong, she had no business trying to fact-check in real time. She should resign from this job.
Although I thought she was out of line and seemed to have caught herself making a spontaneous statement in support of Obama, I was more concerned with Crowley choosing a question that promotes the blatantly disingenuous equal pay narrative that women make 72 cents on the male dollar when apples-to-apples studies show it to really be 95-96 cents on the male dollar. Sorry, comparing unskilled at-home day care workers' pay with that of skilled electrical engineers is not an honest comparison. Or how about the "uncommitted" Latina voter, Loraine, who when called on to ask a question of Romney completely brushed Romney off and practically orgasmed in her chair saying "hi" to Obama, then spoke to Romney like he was her annoying next door neighbor. Uncommitted my rear end. That was laughable. She was like the 14 year-old high school Freshman meeting the star Senior quarterback. *giggles*.
I Agree Completely.
None of your statements hold water. You are obviously too much of a far right wing GOP supporter to give any objectivity or creedence to your comments. Your comment about womens wages is laughable. The fact is that women do not get the promotions which accounts for a big part of the pay discrepancy. Also, as stated in the debate, women are OFTEN forced to train men who end up being the boss. If the woman has the knowledge and experience to train someone else then she should also be eligible for the promotion.
C Crowley Had two things on display last night. Her Bias and her redundant adipose.
She should be terminated by CNN immediately
I must have totaly misread that woman. I thought she was a Romney fan and called him Mr President. Maybe it was just me. But you could definately tell the crowed was not neutral.
ms. crowley was a disgrace to her profession. she interrupted romney 28 times and obama only 9 times. she also helped obama with his answers. she should lose her job at least.
Mitt, is that you??
Oh, grow up and stop whining. Candy and all the people who asked questions were respectful to the President of the USA. Unlike the desperate Romney who was not only disrespectful, constantly interrupting both the President and Candy. Romney so not presidential. I sure hope Americans don't elect him. How long has Romney been running for president anyway???Is there reasons why he wasn't elected before? He is desperate and will lie, do and say anything. Canadians wish they could vote for Obama. It will be pretty scary if Romney is elected and America should then look forward to more unpaid wars to add to your deficit.
Truer words were never spoken. Every angle on every issue had a progressive bent. And when Romney tried to pivot like with "Fast and Furious" on the assault weapons question, Candy shut him down.
I can not see how you say she caught her self. She totally disrupted the point Romney was trying to commit the President to. With her opinion I might add. I don't expect to see reply this since my "soundoff" was submited an hour before yours and the CNN "moderator/editor" still hasn't released it. Oh Well I'll send it to FoxNews, they'll release it.
Then you were not at all listening to what she said, or to what was said at the debate, and just already had biased asumptions against Pres. Obama. Ms. Crowley clearly stated at the debate that BOTH OF them were right in what they were saying. But people are acting liking Candy was out of line for stating the TRUTH instead of letting a lie perpetuate.
Pres Obama did say what he said in the Rose Garden. But of course republicans would like nothing more than to perpetuate a lie, so that they can continue to have false fodder against the President. It's ridiculous.
Repubs are just upset because they were caught in a blatant lie, that Romney tried to score political points over, and it caught him dead in his tracks.
Such an informative and deeply thoughtout comentary. I am impressed.
Mike you are right on...Ms Crowley owes Governor Romney an apology and the American people. The Republican Party is really stupid to allow only left leaning people to be in charge. The first debate was fair....Ms. Crowley and her girl friends at CNN are extremely disappointing. Fox News is the only fair and balanced news. We need more balanced news organizations you can trust. I will say CNN is getting better.I like to hear both sides of the aisle...
Thanks Mike this was a real set up against Romney.
Preferably "with a spoon" and none too soon….
Don't know what "studies" that you are referring to since you just make the statement without any support for it but Wood, Corcoran, and Courant (1993) accounted for skill sets and other factors and found a ~18% discrepancy that could ONLY be attributable to gender bias. Your visceral distaste for the facts is only matched by your disregard for others relegating you inconsequential...
(Wood, Robert G., Mary E. Corcoran, and Paul Courant. 1993. Pay Differences Among the Highly Paid: the Male-Female Earnings Gap in Lawyers’ Salaries. Journal of Labor Economics, Vol. 11, No. 3, pp. 417-441).
the narrative is actually 77 cents, but yes you are right it is misleading..it doesn't take into account several factors including job description and hours worked per week and overtime.
Lily ledbetter doesn't address this directly but allows a longer time frame to sue if she learns she was underpaid in the past.
If Romney was smart, he would have accepted this in the first place as something Pro Women to taut.. but he was too busy on his hands and knees for chamber of commerce types... Good luck with that women vote, Mitt!
Well, Obama is a cooler guy than Romney.
What I can't figure out is why it matters if she's uncommitted or not? The question was still a perfectly reasonable one.
Obama is a COOLER guy than Romney? Ha! If you want cool, go see a movie starring a "cool" empty headed Hollywood type. Cool doesn't cut it when it comes to running the U.S.A. and being leader of the free world. Obama is an arrogant, self serving elitist who doesn't know a dollar bill from Monopoly money when it comes to the economy. He is all talk and no substance. Do us all a favor and stay home on Election Day.
America does not "cool", it needs a "leader".
I believe the debates would be much more useful is moderators called out the speakers on facts!
The moderator position is like a referee in sports. Think about it. If this were a sport game like the NFL and the referee took a side. We would call that fixing a game. I believe that would be illegal. It also give that sport a lack of credibility. Well, the same thing happened on National TV in the Presidential debate. The moderator (referee) took a side. Was this fixed ? Did she and the journalist community lose credibility ? Sure looks like it. Just calling like most people see it.
A cooler guy? Is this race for most popular?
So Kaleb let me get this straight because you think Obama is cool he should be reflected as president on his cool factor.people with your lack of brains could make a comment like that. Please do not vote you are to stupid please stay home in your cool bubble.
That's what American voters' knowledge about choosing the commander in chief of our country, based on "coolness" just like a teenager decided to sleep with a football player because he's cool no wonder the whole country got knocked up.
The 2008 election really defines the American's intelligence, the whole world is laughing at us. Somphomore senatoe, community organize, a lawyer oh my.
Candy Crowley should apologize to Romney for her BLATANTLY WRONG interjection in favor of Obama. I listened to the Rose Garden Spoeach and several of the presidents speaches that followed it and HE CLEARLY did not say the attack WAS and act of terror. He said that "acts of terror" would not go unpunished a generalization. He was clearly trying to tie it to the MOVIE – he was apologetic and he and or Hillary is responsible for not providing security that was requested. STOP pandering to Obama – Fired Candy Crowley she did a horrible job and her excuses are GARBAGE.
Was it Lorraine? Or Lorraina? Or Lori? Lorraine? Is that right?
back to fox spews. They are ready to inject you with more deep thought.
If you want to discuss equal pay, then compare equal work for equal pay. There is no comparison between daycare worker and electrical engineer, but electrical engineer and electrical engineer. Your attempt to fudge the issue is proof of the mindset of conservatives opposing to admit this issue, which will be defeated.
One Obama sympathizer try to cover her stupid remarks by talking to another dumbo sympathizer and open supporter of the this double talker tyrant.Obama can run but he can not his record that specks volumes of lies and deceits.
Sir, did you feel as though the world was against Republicans before or after the President said " proceed Gov. Romney". You guys just got upset when the answer went the wrong way for Moderate Mitt.. Hey, Mitt needs to keep his story straight – that's what is shutting him down more than anything that the President can ever say or do.
I guess she was one of the 47% that Romney thinks is unimportant...lol..I have heard behind closed doors he doesn't need their vote anyway...so don't sweat it Mike according to Romney his million dollar buddies will bring him through...NOT...
Disgraceful. Undeserved in a democratic republic of free people.
Candy Crowley deserves tarring and feathering except that twenty or thirty roofs would go leaking and a thousand chickens would die to cover her fetid, foul bias. Could there be a more disgusting example of the lie that is liberalism? You'd fire her fat ass, had you an ounce of decency.
But you won't, of course. You'll continue to die the death of a thousand ratings books. Just don't impose your journalistic malpractice on the millions upon millions of Americans who otherwise ignore you in every way possible. Shame on the ugly, ugly bunch of you. And thanks again, Zip, for bringing us all together in a spirit of hope and change.
It was very unprofessional of you getting personally involved and interrupting the Debate regardless of your political views.
If it was any other Network you probably would get fired for your responses . It was not your Debate.
I was undecided Voter but after your performance my vote will go to Romney. Thanks again for spoiling it.
Mike from San Diego
Way to go Crowley, not too Bias. As much as you tried to help Obama, you definately showed bigger balls, maybe you should run for prez.
Candy Crowley, is a fool, while on earth would she come to President Obama's defense, when Michelle Obama, said that fat people are a national security risk, this woman is a snob, she hates fat people, just ask Oprah Winfrey.
another MSM Obama coddler................
Crowley backs up HER man's lie in hopes it will blow over 'till after the election.
The only reason she's 'fessing up to it now is because WE all now he never called it "terrorism"
for a week!
AND that CNN would bury it.
Random acts of journalism do not occur at CNN often.
how did this cow get to be on the debate..oh excuse me did i say get to be on the debate like she was part of it, herself running for office..actually i would have preferred one of your male staffers with a tutu doing the debate....it would have been funnier...not eye candy you cow, you are a pest, and one that should not have been allowed to even be on the stage with all your bias...the only thing crowley got right is that she and obama not eye candy...i will be so happy when you shut down operations and the two people that watch your shows can switch over to fox...if it was not for fox network telling america the truth cnn and the other liberal networks would be telling the american people that gas is 1.95 a gallon and the reason they paying so much is because they live in the northern most point of alaska....god help america if this clown is re elected...
Candy Crowley did not do her job. She let Obama interrupt repeatedly and let him speak longer than Romney. He had thefirst comments and the last comments. She shut Romney down, who was a professional and let Obama do what he pleased. She was not a balanced moderator!
Candy Crowler was a moderator, who failed to moderate herself. She was the third debater on Obama's side. I replayed the exchange on Lybia repeatedly, because I could not believe what I had just seen. Candy Crowley actually ran interference for President Obama apparently fearing the American People might hear the truth from Governor Romney. She shut the Governor down and declared a lie to be the truth. Shame on her. Spin it anyway you want, I know whaqt I saw. I will never watch your channel again.
Candy Crowley was completely unprofessional by interjecting her comments as a moderator. And she showed her liberal bias. She has hurt CNN's image. CNN should not be allowed to moderate in the future.
someone else (matman13) typed up this excellent overview......
Candy Crowley ought to be skewered for defending either side last night. That's not the role of a debate moderator. And yet, she's being hailed for erroneously siding with the President.
Here's the link to the President's Rose Garden address the day after the Benghazi attack:
Here's the pertinent pieces.
:24 four...were killed in an attack...in Benghazi.
:53 The United States condemns...this outrageous and shocking attack.
1:13 ...to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people.
1:28 But there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence.
1:35 The world must stand together to...reject these brutal acts.
1:44 ...and this attack will not break the bonds between [us] and Libya.
1:49 Libyan security...fought back against the attackers...
3:48 ...last night we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.
4:35 We will not waver...to see that justice is done for this terrible act.
4:44 ...the lives these Americans led stand in...contrast...to...their attackers.
Now, those are the direct references the President made to what happened and the perpetrators. Do you see the word terror in any of those comments?
The only time "terror" is mentioned is in the platitudinous remarks beginning at 3:53, which occur shortly after the President describes what he had done the day before to commemorate the terror attacks of 9/11.
As Americans, let us never, ever, forget that our freedom is only sustained because our people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it. Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those, both civilian and military, who represent us around the globe. No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for.
Now, he never refers directly to what happened in Benghazi as terrorism, and I'm hard-pressed to believe that this passing comment about "acts of terror" is in reference to Benghazi. More likely, it was a general comment about 9/11 in light of his activities the day before.
However, he was not remiss to mention the video that supposedly sparked this, even if in passing, beginning at the 1:18 mark.
Since our founding, the United States has been a nation that respects all faiths. We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others.
In short, my assessment is that the President clearly lied last night in the debate, and Candy Crowley was a willing accomplice.
Candy Crowley is a professional. Bur she messed up this one. The term "acts of terror" that was used by the president was a generalized statement and not specific to Benghazi Gate. If that was the case, how would one explain the administration's confusing, conflicting and changing statements between his Sept. 12 statement and 2 weeks later? When semantics muddles the issue, context rules: context, context, context!
CANDY MUST BE DOING THE PREZ!!!
I'm and independent voter and I think both sides have ponts to make in this elction. Unfortunately... I thought that this particular debate was the worst debate so far. As far as the exchange of ideas goes I thought the vice presidental debate was a fair exchang. On the other hand Ms. Crowley's obvious bias was a major disappointment. I would have much pererred that she kept her mouth shut and stuck to the agreed upon format. I guess it's too much to expect.
Disappointed CNN fan
she wanted to "move this along"
so she interjected on the president's behalf.........you read that right, the MODERATOR interjected FOR ONE SIDE.........AND WAS WRONG.
have they fired Crowley yet?
What happened to OBJECTIVE REPORTING? And Debate Monitoring? USA is sick of extreme partisanship that has infected the media outlets. Candy managed to alienate majority of voters from BO. Hope she's happy with our NEW PRESIDENT!
OK, 12 hours or so have passed since last night's debate. I'm guessing that Ms. Crowly's sugar crash has allowed for a return to base line by now. It may explain why she was dishonest, unethical and unashamedly fronting for Husein. She also needs speech therapy as she was unable to pronounce whole sentences without a halting cadence to her delivery. Ms. Crowley just could not control her bias towards Husein, the Democrats and the far left agenda. Husein did not refer to the situation in Benghazi as a act of :terror he merely said the word terror disconnected to any actual occurence. Although I no longer expect the simple factual truth from the left I must say that Crowley's performance is yet another example of our dying society as when the truth is changed as the the left does there is only one result: destruction of all of us. Crowley, acording to the rules of the debate, was prohibited from making any comments like the terror comment and she allowed Husein to have 3.5 more minutes then Rommney. Why wont the left get honest and arm their candidates with firearms. There is hardly a single journalist left in America as most of them have sold their souls to the devil. When the muslim tide sweeps over our country, and it will, you lefties will be the first to go. Because you'll welcome them and they will kill you your so easy. F Chris Mathews.
NOW Candy Crowley comes out and states Romney was correct. Too late lady. It was very obvious you were in the Obama pocket. You would not let Romney rebuttal the lies Obama kept spewing. Shame on you. You are not an honest news person. Obama received 31/2 more minutes than Romney. So your favoritism showed.
It wasn't Candy Crowley's or anyone else's place to give an "opinion" during the debate. She tried to influence voters with her statement during the debate. No response to the President's question would have been appropriate. You prove time after time that the media can not be trusted.
Candy Crowley was completely out of line, as the moderator, entering into the discussion of who's right or wrong in the comments between Gov. Romney and President Obama. It is not the moderator's place to take sides, which she did several times throughout the debate in support of the President. In my opinion, this certainly has hurt her credibility as a journalistic professional and I have no desire to watch her again.
You (Crowley) missed an opportunity to do a good job as an umpire, on the moment you "inserted" your views you lost the necessary credibility to be a mediator. Nobody wants to know you opinion on a debate.
As an independent, I was eager to hear what both men had to say in this debate. Recently it seems that the president doesn't like to be blamed or questioned about anything he says or does. I was glad to see the give and take from both men, but when the talk of Libya came up and Ms. Candy put her 2¢ in the mix, I feel she did a disservice to the people
of the USA, 4 Americans have been killed on the Anniversary of Sept 11, 2001 and it appears he nor the state department had a clue to be ready for any terror activity on that day. Also, since the President has been bragging everywhere that HE killed Osama, I was waiting to hear his reaction to the crowds in Egypt chanting Obama we had a Million Osamas. Nothing about some obscure youtube thing. I think when the league of women voters was in charge of the debates, we had a more fair set of moderators, I can see how a reporter/pundit could NOT resist the desire to become part of the debate regardless the outcome of their actions. We the People were not very well served by Ms. Candy last night. I hope next week is more a REAL DEBATE, not a 3 way conversation with some unelected person with the possibility of bias.
Candy Crowley was a terrible moderator. Extremely biased and even though she tried to help Obama, he continues to look like the fool that he is. Such a loser! I think they should do away with the moderators, all have been failures.
Wow! Sure looked like this was all worked out ahead of time. Trick or Treat!?!? Candy for Obama!!
This will become the famous Rose Garden Implosion. Goodbye BO!
This bitch needs to be fired for what she did. Explain to me how someone would "just happen" to have the transcripts under her desk at the debate, and was able to produce them the minute Ovomit asked her to.
Also, Candy Crowley interrupted Romney 28 times and Obama only 9 times. How can she claim to be impartial? It was SOOOOO obvious she had her lips permanently fused to his ass...sickening. That's ok though, Romney is a man of INTEGRITY AND MORALS, and doesn't have to sink to such slimy underhanded tactics to get his points across. Truth always prevails. Karma will come to bite you in the ass....of course judging by the size of that caboose, it might take several tries.
Come on Candy. If you wanted to "move it along" you had done so all night without taking a side. Your liberal bias showed throughout the night, but especially with this interaction.
I Think candy did great job. you are amazing woman. thank you. Obama was the winner.
The Moderator is to submit the questions to the debaters and moderate, see that the rules for answering them are followed.
The Moderator is not one of the debaters. They are to submit the questions, not answer them. That is called a Commentator and comes after the debate.
Candy made a mistake, she should simply admit it. Just say, "I made a Mistake."
Candy Crowley was ineffective as a moderator. She appeared to be doing whatever the President directed her to do.
She is so biased in favor of Pres. Obama that she was incapable of being an unbiased moderator. Obama did not look presidential – he appeared to be a lecturer and was very impolite in over-talking both Gov. Romney and the moderator.
Fact checkers say Candy was incorrect. Obama did not call it a terrorist attach as she said. He simply referred to acts of terror in a generic way.
Moderators should stay out of it, especially when it turns out they were incorrect.
I am really sorry to see the rationalizing of the interjection of Candy Crowley last night. I've listened to tapes, read the transcripts of the events, and unfortunately, CNN has now lost another family of viewers. By not stepping up and owning up that the moderator was wrong, as well as the President, shows that the lies are allowed to prevail. Thanks for many years of good, solid coverage, but this time, by not holding yourself and the President accountable for an untrue statement.....I must move ahead with one of the last few choices I have as a voter...
Candy did a great job defending the President. She doesn't need to worry about her credibility as a journalist. She didn't have any to start with.
The Moderator is to submit the questions and see that the rules are followed in answering them.
The Moderator is NOT one of the debaters.
The Moderator should not be a Commentator, that comes after the Debate.
The Moderator does not have the right to answer the question under debate.
Candy broke the rules herself! She made a mistake... as we all do.
Just say, " I made a mistake."
She shouldn't try to cover it up with excuses, she is more mature than that.
Crowley did not do her job. She displayed poor judgement and it was not her place to " move things along" as she states. Her job was to allow the speakers to fully respond. A truly independent person should be chosen as moderator, which she is not.
Candy had no right to place herself as the third person in the debate thus she was not fair in my opinion she should have let the two of them hash it up
Candy was correct that Obama did say "acts of terror" on Sept 12 but he was speaking in broad terms and he did NOT call the Benghazi attack an act of terror, which he was tying to the youtube video on Sept 12. Last night Obama tried to manipulate us about what he said on Sept 12 - think, 'lawyering' and the meaning of "is" - and Candy fell into it because She was not careful about what she confirmed. When Obama asked her to repeat her validation of his lie more loudly, she should have carefully set the record straight more clearly. Human mistake? on Candy's part? perhaps BUT she was WRONG about what Obama had stated, even if she was correct about the actual words that he spoke. What is OUTRAGEOUS here is Soledad's TONE, so condescending and patronizing - who cares if the audience was applauding –> about a lie. Is Soledad really so dim that she does not understand that specific words take on meaning with the words that surround them? Is she really so limited about language as she holds her out to be some kind of reporter? Or is she so BIASED that she can't acknowledge the truth? which is what journalism at least used to be about. CNN should have higher standards than this. Soledad needs to go.
Candy for Obama was a real treat. She did her best to help BO by lying on his behalf. BO is quite capable of lying without her help. He does it on a regular basis. She should be banned from all media...except Left-leaning media outlets like CNN, I guess... "Would you say that again, Candy? A little louder?" Ignorance is a terrible trait for news people.
Uh, no. If you want the candidates to move along then you tell them, "Let's move along". You don't inject yourself into the debate with an ad libbed fact-check (which turned out to be wrong) in favor of one of the candidates, especially when you don't have a transcript of the disputed statement sitting right in front of you. This is just a lame excuse for Ms. Crowly momentarily forgetting her role and vocally caving in to her bias.

Candy Crowley should have to publically apologize to Governor Romney and to his supporters. She not only interjected false information into the debate in an effort to defend the president, she interrupted Governor Romney several times when he attempted to refute a comment which President Obama made that he disagreed with, whle allowing Obama to speak at length. Additionally, she gave the president approximately four more minutes of speaking/rebuttal time during the debate than Gov. Romney was allowed. In simple terms, the bias of Candy Crowley towards the president was quite evident. In regard to Candy's generic claim that her interference on President Obama's behalf occurred because she simply "wanted to move it along", I find it odd that she wasn't in that mindset when Obama was attacking Romney, and going well over his alloted time when doing so. Needless to say, her behavior has caused many to blog and post about her lack of fairness, and to address the issue of how she is the worse debate moderator ever. Of course, those who support the president won't have any complaints since Candy assisted their candidate out of a bad situation by interferring on his behalf and stopping the line of questioning. Another point is that the question was not addressed to Candy since she is not a presidential candidate, therefore there is no legitimate reason that she should have answered it in the first place. If Candy Crowley isn't professioal enough to handle the job of moderating a debate in a fair manner, she should never be allowed to perform that duty again.
I am sickened by Ms. Crowley's behaviour. I have watched her for years. Never again. She should be forced to wear a big Obama Forward button on her LEFT shoulder. Most of us middle of the road folks know we are listening to talking Democrat heads when we turn on CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSN, etc. However a Moderator is supposed to moderate, not answer questions inaccurately in favor of her party's candidate, not deem which statement is right or wrong – especially in a town hall format.
Candy, You screwed up. Just admit that it's not the job of a Moderator to fact check (and get it wrong, I might add) in the middle of a debate, you did, and you shouldn't have. Democrats LOVE the fact that you butted in, Republicans HATE that you couldn't remain unbiased, but a "mea culpa" would go a long way in recovering your credibility...
I totally disagree that Candy Crowelly was trying to move things along by saying what the Presidient said in the Rose garden. That was not her place to say what was said or not said. She had already lost control of the debate. Did she never told the President he was wrong and Romney was right. This is why the mediator should not be exteme one side or the other.
Candy didn't need to "move this along." We wanted to hear the candidates. Candy injected herself too many times and sadly, a few times in the debate demonstrated her bias. When Candy played off the cuff fact checker and supported the President, he said, "Say that again." Exactly why are we supposed to hear the moderator fact checking the candiates during the debate? Because Candy wanted to make sure the President won points even if she had to show her bias. Shame on Candy. Before the debate I thought she always made the attempt to be fair minded when reporting. Now I won't be able to watch her Sunday show without knowing she threw her unbiased reporting and moderating out the door when it mattered most. The left-leaning media just can't help themselves when push comes to push. It's to late, Candy, to role back the tape and now make the claim that Romney was right.
Ms Crowley, if the reason you butted in was because, as you say, you "wanted to move things along", you could have just said THAT. But you didn't. Instead you said, "Actually....(and proceeded to state that Mr. Romney was wrong). Not your role. I had been so excited to have you moderate because I've always felt you were fair. Instead, I am so disappointed AND so embarrassed. I was so wrong. You had no business moderating that debate.
disgraceful to say the least.
ms. crowley showed her stripes during the debate and she should never moderate another debate. she in my opinion is a disgrace to her profession. if cnn had any sense of fair play they would dismiss ms. crowley. she does not deserve to be on the national stage in any format. if she is not reprimaned i will never tune in to cnn again – this kind of behavior proves that she and cnn in turn are not unbias. one man's opinion.
Candy Crowley proved that she is not gonna be fait to both sides. She stepped in and defended Obama and had no business even getting in the middle of it. She acted like she Fact Checked the statement and she didn't She Should Be Fired!!!! SHE SHOULD BE FIRED
During the debate last night, Candy C. revealed to the world once again just how biased CNN has become. She showed also just how unqualified she is to moderate anything. Your network is becoming known as CENN...the 'E' standing for Editorial. Just disgusting!
Ms Crowley's performance last night were terrible. Her clumsy and inaccurate comments on Libya during the debate did a huge disservice to the public. No amount of playing with words today will correct the damage she has done. She should consider a new occupation
Come on CNN. Please post the entire transcript for the Presidents speech on 9/13/2012 on the Rose Garden. What are you afraid of?
We were avid fans of Candy Crowley prior to her performance as debate moderator – NO MORE!! She let Mr. Obama go on and on without interruption resulting in him actually having over 3 minutes more time than Gov. Romney. She cut off Gov. Romney which resulted in him not able to get his point across. Her choice of questions was downright ridiculous, and her participation in the Benghazi portion of the debate was inexcusable. Now we'd rather watch cartoons than Ms. Crowley's Sunday program as they do not present an obvious liberal bias.
Liars at CNN!!! The prseident NEVER said "act of terror" in his Sept 12th speech!!!
Obama said, "No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for."
The word 'terror' was ONLY mentioned ONCE in his speech that day and the word 'terrorist attack' was NOT mentioned at all!
Not once in his speech did Obama refer to the attacks as a terrorist attack and you know it!!!! Why are you being sooooo UNPROFESSIONAL and UNETHICAL!!!! Why???
Candy finally couldn't take it any more...she tore off the umpire gear and started to "root, root, root " for her home team, Obama. Se couldn't help herself...the "devil" in Romney made her do it. Best put her back to covering dog races and pie eating contests.
Candy Crowley needs to make a public apology for inserting her opinion in the Presidential debate. It is not the job of the moderator to make any type of comment other than to tell the candidates to move on to the next question. She basically called Mitt Romney a liar on a public broadcast. This act was no different than the Joe Wilson “You Lie!” comment made during the 2009 Presidential address to Congress.
I think Candy Crowley's biased behavior was disgraceful. This is yet another instance of the media bias that tries to prop up the president. She was clearly wrong on her fact about the president referring to the Libya tragedy as terrorism. I saw that rose grarden exchange and the president was clearly talking about 911. Why would she do the debating for the president anyway? Crowley said before the debate that she would let her opinion be known and she did. I guess CNN is not the source for real journalism. Does CNN really think they can can control public opinion by spinning something as important as a president's failure to respond to a terrorist incident? or that they can spin a live presidential debate by inserting such a biased so called journalist into a very important debate that affects all Americans?
You (Crowley) missed an opportunity to do a good job as an empire, on the moment you "inserted" your views you lost the necessary credibility to be a mediator. Nobody wants to know you opinion on a debate.
I am not surprised about her excuse of moving it along.
I stopped listening to her biased opinions long ago.l
Ms. Crowley's insertion of herself into the Libya debate was inappropriate and erroneous. The "act of terror" comment by the President was not specifically in reference to Benghazi, nor did the commentary and behavior of the White House and its surrogates in the many days after the attack lend credence to Ms. Crowley's leap of interpretation of the President's comments. She owes Mr. Romney, and the viewing public, an apology for stating, as a fact, that the President called the Benghazi attack an "act of terror."
CNN is permantly excluded from my home....No Mas, No Mas! I haved wotched Turner and cnn since my days at GaTech in the 1950's but no more. I have put a BLOCK on your channels forever. Crowley should be FIRED!!!!!!
Lyin' now says Crowley has back-tracked on her statement? In your dreams you Lyin' sack of poodie.
Wow – just a really poor moderator – journalism at its worst!!
Candy Crowley is a spin doctor for Obama. Her statement about the Rose Garden Statement was strictly BS. You are a lier.
Was Romney debating the president or Candy Crowley? I bit into CNN's bias last election. It won't happen again. Candy should be fired on the spot.
Candy did the American people a disservice by her incorrect statement about Obama saying that the attacks were a terrist attack. Obama was speaking in a generic manner Not about Libbea. She should have got her facts straight before trying to influence the debate. I think she was the poorest moderator so far. generally I like her views but this is over the top and she ows the American people an appology
The Fact Checker of the Washington Post on 10-17 established that Romney was RIGHT, and that Obma and Crawley were WRONG on Benghazi. Some appoligies are in order. Let's see if we get them.
Never saw a moderator inject themselves into a debate like that before and hope to never see it again. Candy Crowley performed very poorly in that regard.
The president flat out lied about calling the attack in Libya an act of terror and candi seconded the lie.
Candy should be fired for injecting her "erroneous" comment. It is reasons such as this that your liberal views turn off most listeners. I for one refuse to listen or watch your biased opinons.
SHAME SHAME SHAME CNN she should be fired
WHAT A LOSER. THE MODERATOR IS SO BIASED IT WASN'T EVEN FUNNY. I HOPE THE NEXT MODERATOR WILL BE FAIR AND NOT GIVE ANY OPINION SWAYING ATTEMPTS. WHAT AN UNDER QUALIFIED COW LOOKING LEFTY. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT CANDY!
3 questions, 1. why did you answer for the President..to move things along is nonsense.
2. Why the Bush question, who thought of this one?
3. Why did the President have 3plus minutes more speaking time than Mr. Romney?
What a lousy job you did moderating Candy. You were as bad as Raddatz. I don't understand why they allow biased reporters like you to moderate important debates like this. A very poor job.
As an independent, I found Candy Crowley's handling of the debate was simply horrible. Candy, you are no Fareed.
