Why did Candy Crowley interject on Libya in debate? She wanted to 'move this along'
This morning on "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien," CNN's Candy Crowley talks about her experience moderating the second presidential debate with Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama.
Many folks are talking about Crowley's statement that President Obama was right when he claimed that he called the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi an "act of terror."
"I was trying to move this along," Crowley says. "The question was Benghazi...there was this point they both kind of looked at me, you know, Romney's looking at me, the president is looking at me, and I wanted to move this along. Can we get back to the - so I said, he did say "acts of terror", called it an "act of terror", but Governor Romney, you were perfectly right that it took weeks for them to get past the tape."

Yes, move it along because it is a huge exposure of the incompetence of the Obama regime and the deceit they use – with the help of the leftwing media – to cover up their wrong doing. Is there anything the democrats and CNN won't do to seize power, anything, that is, but tell the truth which will sink them every time.
There have been some suprising moments, when I have started to believe that there is some sort of journalisitic objectivity lurking around at CNN. Then I watch last night on CNN and i'm left shaking my head again at the total one sided leftist animal that CNN is, rear its ugly head.
One example: Black commentator, don't know his name, on live broadcast (paraphrasing here) – Mitt Romney blames gun violence on single mothers. There are many other examples, but what is the point, really?
CNN you're disgusting. And Candy, you're response to the Benghazi issue was transparent as soon as you opened your mouth, and then proceeded to let the audience clap. Everyone watched President Obama, generally make the statement about the event in Benghazi. If he believed it an act of terror, by an organization like Al Quida, he should have said it right there. He didn't. He referred to the whole act, as something terroristic in nature. The following statements made for two weeks afterward was the Administration's official stance – until the truth could no longer be contained. Do you think that maybe they knew what it was from the get go, and wanted to stuff it down for the sake of damage control, so close to the election? Hmnn, I wonder.
By the way, what's the margin of error in the flash poll of who won the debate? I don't think I've seen that yet. That's important you know. Since, all along CNN has been saying how Mr. Obama won. At best, you could say it was a draw on your headlines. At least W. Blitzer came out and said it on live TV.
It was completely unprofessional for Candy Crowley to interject herself into Mitt Romney's response. It's even worse today to see her continue to try to make excuses, after her tepid retraction with Anderson Cooper last night. Journalistic integrity is gone in this country. We as a nation really need to demand that the people who report the news, are held to a journalistic code of ethics. They've been getting away with this stuff for way too long. Might I add the obvious, in this alternate universe that Obama's sycophants seem to inhabit, but I actually remember Sept. 2012. It wasn't that long ago, folks. If you tell a lie long enough, I suppose it becomes true, but guess what! I remember that the blame for the attack in Benghazi was placed on a spontaneous demonstration about a video FOR WEEKS. The emphasis was on the idea that this was not a protest against the United States government. That was the line we were getting. The White House even tried to coerce Google to remove the video. It took weeks before we were eased into the idea that this was a planned terrorist attack and was absolutely an attack on our government. This isn't the end of this Libya debacle. CNN can try to cover for Obama until election day, but voters aren't that stupid. As Judge Judy so cleverly put it, "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining" CNN!!
In the end, it all boils down to this; the President mislead, or lied to, the American People concerning his actions after the assault on our embassy in Libya. Candy Crowley was either complicit, or aggressively conspiratorial, in the President's actions. The media's spin doctors can deal with it as they see fit. However, in the long run history will put a black mark beside their name.

I was so exciting to see a woman moderating the debate. I defended you against bias comment from my friends before the debate. However, I was so disappointed that I was wrong when you took charge to answer the Lybia question. Moderator has no business interupting candidates. Your action has shown how weak our President is. He always needs a telepromter and you're his virtual one.
Candy and Obama did a great job debating Romney. When is the Republican party going to demand neutral mediators instead of people from the liberal media. Listening to her help Obama with his lies just made me all the more committed to vote for Romney.

Candy Crowley was a disgrace last night and worse, CNN has become a disgrace by covering for their own. There are currently 3 links as lead stories about this stupid binders comment by Romney and 0 about the moderator controversy. Heck- there's no longer a decent article in the main links about the debate at all- just nonsense stuff.
Crowley CLEARLY covered Obama's ass on a VERY important issue. His administration is caught in a lie and he keeps perpetuating it. To be bailed out by the moderator is a sham. That exchange can't be undone by a brief explanatino that's being covered up by her own network (I guess you all are learning from the Obama campaign quite well).
Candy Crowley, I hope it was worth it. You just discredited your entire career in order to shill for "your" President. This is what you will be remembered for...anything else in your career...wiped clean off the slate.

Candy it was obvious the point Mitt Romney was trying to make and it was wrong of you to step in. The President and his administration for two weeks tried to sell a narrative that the terrorist attack on our embassy was nothing more than a protest that went out of hand. That was a lie and the american people know it!
Well if she was correct then good call but if she was incorrect and many feel she was well bad call. It's on tape did he or did he not call it a terror attack and a demonstration I think he said it was both? But both he and Romney made it polictical that I do know but Obama likes to point fingers at other for calling him on possible mistakes.

Candy's comments stunned me. To tell a debater that he is wrong about a fact during a debate is beyond the pale. The president's comment was a direct contradiction to what the vice president said in the previous debate a week ago. Those who applauded despite agreeing there would be no applause reveal that they only want rules if it helps their side win. The most memorable part of a debate should not be a moderator interjecting herself. Very disappointed.

The day after the Benghazi attack, Obama, Susan Rice et. al. were still peddling the discredited story that the murder of Ambassador Stevens and other Americans was a spontaneous eruption due to an video that makes fund of Muhammad. He DID NOT say that the attack was a terror attack the day after, he simply referred to Terror in general. Taking things in context, when the President mentioned "acts of terror" in the rose garden, it had to be generic and not specific to Benghazzi, otherwise why did they speak of the video and protests etc. If he meant Beghazzi was an act of terrorism in the Rose Garden, then why the misinformation that followed by the UN Ambassador, Press Secretary Carney and the President on the View and with Letterman. Hence the President was really stretching and so was Ms Crowley when she said today "it was not much of a stretch to imply the President had called it (Benghazzi) an act of terror. She extrapolated with poor logic.
Why did we need to move along such an important issue that was given little time so that we could talk about gun control .....for an extended time!? What a bummer.

As a Professional Journalist and a Moderator, Candy Crowley was totally wrong, she had no business trying to fact-check in real time. She should resign from this job.
Although I thought she was out of line and seemed to have caught herself making a spontaneous statement in support of Obama, I was more concerned with Crowley choosing a question that promotes the blatantly disingenuous equal pay narrative that women make 72 cents on the male dollar when apples-to-apples studies show it to really be 95-96 cents on the male dollar. Sorry, comparing unskilled at-home day care workers' pay with that of skilled electrical engineers is not an honest comparison. Or how about the "uncommitted" Latina voter, Loraine, who when called on to ask a question of Romney completely brushed Romney off and practically orgasmed in her chair saying "hi" to Obama, then spoke to Romney like he was her annoying next door neighbor. Uncommitted my rear end. That was laughable. She was like the 14 year-old high school Freshman meeting the star Senior quarterback. *giggles*.

The fact is that women do not get the promotions which accounts for a big part of the pay discrepancy. Also, as stated in the debate, women are OFTEN forced to train men who end up being the boss. If the woman has the knowledge and experience to train someone else then she should also be eligible for the promotion.

The moderator position is like a referee in sports. Think about it. If this were a sport game like the NFL and the referee took a side. We would call that fixing a game. I replayed the exchange on Lybia repeatedly, because I could not believe what I had just seen. Candy Crowley actually ran interference for President Obama apparently fearing the American People might hear the truth from Governor Romney. She shut the Governor down and declared a lie to be the truth. Shame on her. Spin it anyway you want, I know whaqt I saw. I will never watch your channel again.

Candy Crowley ought to be skewered for defending either side last night. That's not the role of a debate moderator. And yet, she's being hailed for erroneously siding with the President.

Now, those are the direct references the President made to what happened and the perpetrators. Do you see the word terror in any of those comments?
The only time "terror" is mentioned is in the platitudinous remarks beginning at 3:53, which occur shortly after the President describes what he had done the day before to commemorate the terror attacks of 9/11.
As Americans, let us never, ever, forget that our freedom is only sustained because our people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it. Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those, both civilian and military, who represent us around the globe. No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for.
Now, he never refers directly to what happened in Benghazi as terrorism, and I'm hard-pressed to believe that this passing comment about "acts of terror" is in reference to Benghazi. More likely, it was a general comment about 9/11 in light of his activities the day before.
However, he was not remiss to mention the video that supposedly sparked this, even if in passing, beginning at the 1:18 mark.
Since our founding, the United States has been a nation that respects all faiths. We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others.
In short, my assessment is that the President clearly lied last night in the debate, and Candy Crowley was a willing accomplice.
Candy Crowley is a professional. Bur she messed up this one. The term "acts of terror" that was used by the president was a generalized statement and not specific to Benghazi Gate. If that was the case, how would one explain the administration's confusing, conflicting and changing statements between his Sept. 12 statement and 2 weeks later? When semantics muddles the issue, context rules: context, context, context!

I'm and independent voter and I think both sides have ponts to make in this elction. Unfortunately... I thought that this particular debate was the worst debate so far. As far as the exchange of ideas goes I thought the vice presidental debate was a fair exchang. On the other hand Ms. Crowley's obvious bias was a major disappointment. I would have much pererred that she kept her mouth shut and stuck to the agreed upon format. I guess it's too much to expect.

OK, 12 hours or so have passed since last night's debate. I'm guessing that Ms. Crowly's sugar crash has allowed for a return to base line by now. It may explain why she was dishonest, unethical and unashamedly fronting for Husein. She also needs speech therapy as she was unable to pronounce whole sentences without a halting cadence to her delivery. Ms. Crowley just could not control her bias towards Husein, the Democrats and the far left agenda. Husein did not refer to the situation in Benghazi as a act of :terror he merely said the word terror disconnected to any actual occurence. Although I no longer expect the simple factual truth from the left I must say that Crowley's performance is yet another example of our dying society as when the truth is changed as the the left does there is only one result: destruction of all of us. It wasn't Candy Crowley's or anyone else's place to give an "opinion" during the debate. She tried to influence voters with her statement during the debate. No response to the President's question would have been appropriate. You prove time after time that the media can not be trusted.
Candy Crowley was completely out of line, as the moderator, entering into the discussion of who's right or wrong in the comments between Gov. Romney and President Obama. It is not the moderator's place to take sides, which she did several times throughout the debate in support of the President. In my opinion, this certainly has hurt her credibility as a journalistic professional and I have no desire to watch her again.
You (Crowley) missed an opportunity to do a good job as an umpire, on the moment you "inserted" your views you lost the necessary credibility to be a mediator. Nobody wants to know you opinion on a debate.
As an independent, I was eager to hear what both men had to say in this debate. Recently it seems that the president doesn't like to be blamed or questioned about anything he says or does. I was glad to see the give and take from both men, but when the talk of Libya came up and Ms. Candy put her 2¢ in the mix, I feel she did a disservice to the people
of the USA, 4 Americans have been killed on the Anniversary of Sept 11, 2001 and it appears he nor the state department had a clue to be ready for any terror activity on that day. Also,since the President has been bragging everywhere that HE killed Osama, I was waiting to hear his reaction to the crowds in Egypt chanting Obama we had a Million Osamas. Nothing about some obscure youtube thing. I think when the league of women voters was in charge of the debates, we had a more fair set of moderators, I can see how a reporter/pundit could NOT resist the desire to become part of the debate regardless the outcome of their actions. We the People were not very well served by Ms. Candy last night. I hope next week is more a REAL DEBATE, not a 3 way conversation with some unelected person with the possibility of bias.

The Moderator is not one of the debaters. They are to submit the questions, not answer them. That is called a Commentator and comes after the debate.

Candy Crowley was ineffective as a moderator. She appeared to be doing whatever the President directed her to do.

Fact checkers say Candy was incorrect. Obama did not call it a terrorist attach as she said. He simply referred to acts of terror in a generic way.

I am really sorry to see the rationalizing of the interjection of Candy Crowley last night. I've listened to tapes, read the transcripts of the events, and unfortunately, CNN has now lost another family of viewers. By not stepping up and owning up that the moderator was wrong, as well as the President, shows that the lies are allowed to prevail. Thanks for many years of good, solid coverage, but this time, by not holding yourself and the President accountable for an untrue statement.....I must move ahead with one of the last few choices I have as a voter...
Candy did a great job defending the President. She doesn't need to worry about her credibility as a journalist. She didn't have any to start with.

Candy was correct that Obama did say "acts of terror" on Sept 12 but he was speaking in broad terms and he did NOT call the Benghazi attack an act of terror, which he was tying to the youtube video on Sept 12. Last night Obama tried to manipulate us about what he said on Sept 12 - think, 'lawyering' and the meaning of "is" - and Candy fell into it because She was not careful about what she confirmed. When Obama asked her to repeat her validation of his lie more loudly, she should have carefully set the record straight more clearly. Human mistake? on Candy's part? perhaps BUT she was WRONG about what Obama had stated, even if she was correct about the actual words that he spoke. What is OUTRAGEOUS here is Soledad's TONE, so condescending and patronizing - who cares if the audience was applauding –> about a lie. Is Soledad really so dim that she does not understand that specific words take on meaning with the words that surround them? Is she really so limited about language as she holds her out to be some kind of reporter? Or is she so BIASED that she can't acknowledge the truth? which is what journalism at least used to be about. CNN should have higher standards than this. Soledad needs to go.

Candy Crowley should have to publically apologize to Governor Romney and to his supporters. She not only interjected false information into the debate in an effort to defend the president, she interrupted Governor Romney several times when he attempted to refute a comment which President Obama made that he disagreed with, whle allowing Obama to speak at length. Additionally, she gave the president approximately four more minutes of speaking/rebuttal time during the debate than Gov. Romney was allowed. In simple terms, the bias of Candy Crowley towards the president was quite evident. In regard to Candy's generic claim that her interference on President Obama's behalf occurred because she simply "wanted to move it along", I find it odd that she wasn't in that mindset when Obama was attacking Romney, and going well over his alloted time when doing so. Needless to say, her behavior has caused many to blog and post about her lack of fairness, and to address the issue of how she is the worse debate moderator ever. Of course, those who support the president won't have any complaints since Candy assisted their candidate out of a bad situation by interferring on his behalf and stopping the line of questioning. Another point is that the question was not addressed to Candy since she is not a presidential candidate, therefore there is no legitimate reason that she should have answered it in the first place. If Candy Crowley isn't professioal enough to handle the job of moderating a debate in a fair manner, she should never be allowed to perform that duty again.
I am sickened by Ms. Crowley's behaviour. I have watched her for years. Never again. She should be forced to wear a big Obama Forward button on her LEFT shoulder. Most of us middle of the road folks know we are listening to talking Democrat heads when we turn on CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSN, etc. However a Moderator is supposed to moderate, not answer questions inaccurately in favor of her party's candidate, not deem which statement is right or wrong – especially in a town hall format.
Candy, You screwed up. Just admit that it's not the job of a Moderator to fact check (and get it wrong, I might add) in the middle of a debate, you did, and you shouldn't have. I totally disagree that Candy Crowelly was trying to move things along by saying what the Presidient said in the Rose garden. That was not her place to say what was said or not said. She had already lost control of the debate. Did she never told the President he was wrong and Romney was right. This is why the mediator should not be exteme one side or the other.

When Candy played off the cuff fact checker and supported the President, he said, "Say that again." Exactly why are we supposed to hear the moderator fact checking the candiates during the debate? Because Candy wanted to make sure the President won points even if she had to show her bias. Shame on Candy. Before the debate I thought she always made the attempt to be fair minded when reporting. Now I won't be able to watch her Sunday show without knowing she threw her unbiased reporting and moderating out the door when it mattered most. We were avid fans of Candy Crowley prior to her performance as debate moderator – NO MORE!! She let Mr. Obama go on and on without interruption resulting in him actually having over 3 minutes more time than Gov. Romney. She cut off Gov. Romney which resulted in him not able to get his point across. Her choice of questions was downright ridiculous, and her participation in the Benghazi portion of the debate was inexcusable. Now we'd rather watch cartoons than Ms. Crowley's Sunday program as they do not present an obvious liberal bias.

Candy Crowley needs to make a public apology for inserting her opinion in the Presidential debate. It is not the job of the moderator to make any type of comment other than to tell the candidates to move on to the next question. She basically called Mitt Romney a liar on a public broadcast. This act was no different than the Joe Wilson “You Lie!” comment made during the 2009 Presidential address to Congress.

Ms. Crowley's insertion of herself into the Libya debate was inappropriate and erroneous. The "act of terror" comment by the President was not specifically in reference to Benghazi, nor did the commentary and behavior of the White House and its surrogates in the many days after the attack lend credence to Ms. Crowley's leap of interpretation of the President's comments. She owes Mr. Romney, and the viewing public, an apology for stating, as a fact, that the President called the Benghazi attack an "act of terror."
