This morning on "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien," CNN's Candy Crowley talks about her experience moderating the second presidential debate with Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama.
Many folks are talking about Crowley's statement that President Obama was right when he claimed that he called the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi an "act of terror."
"I was trying to move this along," Crowley says. "The question was Benghazi...there was this point they both kind of looked at me, you know, Romney's looking at me, the president is looking at me, and I wanted to move this along. Can we get back to the - so I said, he did say "acts of terror", called it an "act of terror", but Governor Romney, you were perfectly right that it took weeks for them to get past the tape."
See more in the clip above.
Why did Crowley interrupt Romney 28 times, and Obama 9 times? If that doesn't paint a bias picture, then nothing does. Numbers don't lie. She is not a neutral moderator, she is clearly trying to put Obama back in office. She is posing as a neutral party, but is a democrat, and will go to the extreme to cheat to get her person to win an election. She tried to fool the American public, but her stunt sticks out like a sore thumb. She should be fired. CNN is going to go broke allowing this type of cheating for a certain candidate. Clearly biased news. I don't want it, and America doesn't either.
She clearly failed as a neutral moderator.
CNN's Candy Crowley admits Mitt Romney 'was right in the main' when he called out President Obama's claim that he immediately called the deadly attack on the Libyan consulate a terrorist act — though she first agreed with Obama and cut short Romney's response.
You placed th story with Soladad. The most in love with Obama liberal biased reporter you have. CNN is a disgrace.
I thought CNN reporters were truth tellers. Crowley helped perpetuate a lie. Obama lied and she helped him use an out of context comment to cover it.
The unfortunate part of this is that many in the conservative media and even a few in the liberal media have stated that the main stream media is biased toward Obama. Ms. Crowley has in one fell swoop, in front of millions of viewers has confirmed and strengthened that belief. Ms. Crowley came across as a liberal who felt that the President needed help because he could not support his stance and actions on Libya. She also seemed to want to enhance her role in the debate from the beginning. Her actions will, sadly to say, become a part of history which will have negative connotations for years to come.
Candy Crowley did an EXCELLENT job as moderator of the second debate. On the Benghazi matter, she acknowledged that both Obama and Romney were correct on different parts of their statements. She did indeed keep the debate moving along and did not take sides. She also maintained control over the debate process and did not allow either candidate to dictate whose turn it was to respond. She did a much better job as moderator than Jim Lerher did in the first debate. By design, debates constrain the length and order of responses of the candidates. If the candidates do not like the debate format, they should not agree to debate. KUDOS to Crowley for a job well done!
Ms O'Brien should be taken off the air completely for being totally incompetent .... it executives at CNN insist on keeping her on the air they should send her over to MSNBC where she can fib and lie with that group over there.
Candy was so biased and she owes an apology to Romney. She should have not intervened to insert that Obama did in fact call the attacks that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens "terror" attacks in his Rose Garden speech.
Obama actually said, "No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for."
She definitely has to apologize to Romney and his campaign.
Candy C. confirmed last night why CNN is not trusted.
I am a Republican. . . and I imagine Candy is a liberal as she is with CNN. I did not see her lean toward either candidate more than the other during the debate. I think it would be a difficult challenge to not show favortism in this heated election. . . people are so strongly opinionated. She handled it much more professionally than would Katy Curick (Sp?), or Savannah from the Today show, or the last moderator.
O'Brien – I saw the video of your interaction with John Sununu. You are undoubtedly one of the most biased and partisan hack reporters on the face of the planet. In other words, you're fundamentally a POS.
I think that there should be a Thank You card written from Obama to Candy Crowley and it should read, Dear Candy, Thanks for the candy, and signed from: Candy, you know, from the view.
Ms. Crowley should be ashamed of herself. CNN continues to show its biased, you certainly are not interested in the truth. If the president make such a statement in regards to Benghazi the next day, why was the president himself, and many of his staff continuing to say it was a protest based on the movie or they are still investigating the incident. This can only be true if there is much imcompentence or someone is lying. I think CNN has become a part of the lie. SHAME ON CNN
Thank you Candy Crowley, you did an absolutely superb job of demonstrating exactly what Bernie Goldberg described in his books "Bias" and "A Slobbering Love Affair". Wonder why CNN's ratings are in the tank? Why most people don't trust the MSM? Next time why not just wear an Obama button on camera.
I have sent in three comments( Which you refuse to display) criticizing Ms. Crowley for interrupting Mr. Romney and telling him he was incorrect about Libya when in fact he WAS correct. This has been on all the news. Her very apparent bias toward Mr. Obama has no place in the mainstream media. Your refusal to display negative comments regarding Ms. Crowley leaves me questioning the integrity of any CNN newscasts.
Candy Crowley's biased/,bold leap into the debate as an Obama supporter was a pretty good example of why an absolutely unlikable guy like Rush Limbaugh became wealthy and welcomed by so many Americans. Candy, you are supposed to be a journalist! Did anybody check the grave site of Edward R. Murrow last night? I suspect they would see the ground vibrating as he rolled in his grave.
I personally panicked as I wondered if my memory of Ambassador Rice insisting it was" all about the video" and disrespect of Islam had been a hallucination a few Sundays ago. If Romney stumbled, it was because he was stunned by the audacity. The President's uttering the word" terrorism" was not in the context of giving us the truth about what really happened. You all knew that.
Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper used to be fairly moderate but they started leaning left as soon as Obama became the president. I don't watch them much anymore but do switch back and forth just to see what is being said on CNN. Glad to see Spitzer and Joyless Behar gone. Isn't it time to get rid of the Brit with the lisp?
I was thoroughly disgusted in the manner that Candy Crowley ran the debate. She repeatedly cut Governor Romney off when he was trying to explain his position but failed to do so with President Obama. Her explanation was she was only "trying to move things along". However, when she "corrected" Governor Romney regarding the statement that Obama gave regarding the attack on our consulate–I was shocked!!!!!!! As a moderator that WAS DEFINITELY NOT HER JOB and more important she was WRONG in her correction!!! She was an absolute disgrace as a moderator. It is this bias and failure to accurately report the news is exactly why I do NOT watch CNN.
Yes I did see the same part of the debate with the question asked by the Hispanic lady Lorranie. Look again and you will see how she addresses the president first , when the question is for Gov. Romney, and then looks befuddled and spurts out Romney as if annoyed that she cannot address Pres Obama. For the most part, the debate was evenhanded in how the qsts were addressed to the candidates. However, the Hispanic lady would want to learn decorum in such a venue
Ted in VA
Ms. Crowley was wrong on the President's utterance in the Rose Garden and wrong in interjecting herself into the debate to "carry the water" for Mr. Obama. The country deserves to know if the Obama administration is "covering up" or totally incompetent in the areas of intelligence and/or foreign affairs. "Acts of terror...." instead of "This act of terror..." followed by appearances on TV and at the UN still claiming that it was the video needs to be resolved in the light of day.
Ms. Crowley you interfered and you need to apologize to the American people!
Shame on Candy, who made American journalists look bad in an historical way! Where is the objectivity of journalism and where is the neutrality of a moderator of a presidential election.
Shame on Candy, shame on CNN
I don't know why the Republicans continue to OK the use of liberals as moderators. It was obvious to me after watching Crowley on CNN that she would not be fair to Romney. She interrupted him several times, would not let him have his rebuttal time, let Obama have the last word on everything and interjected herself into the debate on the Libya question. She should have made Obama answer the question about the securtity in Libya which she did not. Instead she upheld his lie that he called it a terrorist attach the day after it happened which he did not.
I was caught off guard, at how desperate Mrs. Crowley appeared in her attempt to defend president Obama
Well, I am a latina voter that will change my vote to Mr. Romney. I am convinced that he will make a better president
and is very qualified to bring this country back from ruins. How long will China let us borrow and bring our country on
it's knees to beg for mercy. We are borrowing from a communist country mind you and we don't care where the money
is coming from. How about the amount of lying that coming from the White House, Wow, worse than 3rd graders.
"Move this along"? Her hero is flat on his butt on Benghazi, so she had to jump in to try to save him. Thanks, Mommy!
Candy Crowley should never "moderate" a debate again. She should go on the campaign trail with Obama. They're a great team.
@Mike is SA
You are right on the money in your post! I'm sure glad someone else saw what I saw and felt what I felt watching this debate. Obama's had nothing but a cake walk with the MSM and I feel Candy Crowley just continue on with that mindset. Vote Romney/Ryan 2012
I was totally floored by Candy Crowley defending President Obama. This proved to me that the media is bias and when they defend Candy Crowley they are no better than she proved to be last night.
Candy was there as a mediator!! Candy was not there to give her biased opinion. Candy was there to watch the time and call on people in the audiance to ask questions. As a woman, I am sick to my stomach that Candy took this chance to show everyone in the country that all Obama had to do is nod and she ran to his rescue like a stuttering giddy school girl. How pathitic is that?? Candy is suppose to be a professional. What a laugh.
The surprise that you saw on Romey's face was shock that Candy would actually interupt the dabate to give her opinion on the topic. Mediator........... they aren't suppose to have an opinion, or if they do, they are professional enough to not let it show too much. I had the same look of shock on my face when I realized what she had done. The next day she says "she was wrong but Romney said it badly." Who cares Candy?? This may come as a shock to you but I didn't watch the debate to see what you thought you knew!!
CNN is in the tank for Obama as evidenced over and over again. What a bunch of bunk. If you have any sense of reality, you'll see Obama lost again. He didn't answer anything, Romney methodocally pointed out many of the administrations failings. Obama denied his stance for a full 2 weeks that the Libya attack was an act of terrorism. Obama denied that he has reduced new off shore drilling premits by 62% and federal land permits by about 30%. On-and-on. CNN reporters (moderators) have to rescue him time and again. Well at least he wasn't suffering from altitude sickness so the liberal press can claim victory. It's as simple as that.
Crowley interrupted Romney 28 times. 28 times. Her desperation to keep Romney from scoring points was so patently obvious that it wasn’t really a surprise when she had her infamous moment: the moment when she interrupted and falsely claimed Romney was incorrect in accusing Obama of refusing to call the Benghazi attack an act of terror.
And even beyond the interruptions, there were numerous instances where Crowley’s obvious partisanship prompted her to treat Romney with great disrespect:
1. She wouldn’t let him respond when Obama lied about the auto industry. First she called him Mr. Romney instead of governor, then protested, “there'll be plenty of chances here to go on, but I want to... We have all these folks. I will let you absolutely... OK. Will – will – you certainly will have lots of time here coming up.” Romney never did get the chance to respond.
2. After the question asking whether gas prices as they stand now are the new normal, Obama got 2 chances to respond. When Romney asked for his second chance, Crowley shut him off by saying, “ … in the follow up, it doesn't quite work like that. But I'm going to give you a chance here. I promise you, I'm going to.” She didn’t.
3. When discussing how he would deal with deductions, just as Romney was about to destroy Obama with statistics, Crowley jumped in to save her man not only by denying the value of statistics, but changing the narrative to say Romney’s numbers couldn’t possibly add up:
“And Governor, let's – before we get into a vast array of who says – what study says what, if it shouldn't add up. If somehow when you get in there, there isn't enough tax revenue coming in. If somehow the numbers don't add up, would you be willing to look again …”
4. When Romney was trying to make a point of Obama’s pension investing in China, Crowley cut him off by insinuating people were tired of him talking:
“Governor Romney, you can make it short. See all these people? They've been waiting for you. Make it short.”
Then she really tried to humiliate him with this: “If I could have you sit down, Governor Romney. Thank you.” She never asked Obama to sit down.
5. The infamous incident when she interrupted Romney’s claim about Obama’s refusal to call the Benghazi murders a terror attack:
“It – it – it – he did in fact, sir. So let me – let me call it an act of terror...
Prompted by Obama to say it a little louder, Crowley obliged:
“He – he did call it an act of terror. It did as well take – it did as well take two weeks or so for the whole idea there being a riot out there about this tape to come out. You are correct about that.”
6. 6. Just as egregiously, when the question was about assault weapons and Romney naturally started to discuss fast and furious, Crowley quickly shifted him away from that and turned it into an attack on Romney’s assault ban position:
“Governor, Governor, if I could, the question was about these assault weapons that once were once banned and are no longer banned. I know that you signed an assault weapons ban when you were in Massachusetts, obviously, with this question, you no longer do support that. Why is that, given the kind of violence that we see sometimes with these mass killings? Why is it that you have changed your mind?’
The fact that Obama escaped all night long by lie after lie didn’t seem to disturb Crowley in the slightest. She had her shadowy agenda, and she stuck to it fiercely. Now it is our job to throw her out into the sun where every American can see exactly how dirty she is.
Crowley was totally off-base with her statement / fact check on President Obama declaring that this was an act of terror confirmation and misled the audience and viewers in a very bias fashion. I understand that CNN is pro-Democratic but this was a blatant display on Crowley's part, not managing the debate as agreed to by thecontract.
Very POOR job on the part of CNN.
I'm a Candy Crowley fan, but really disappointed with the way she interjected and threw Obama a life line that wasn't necessarily accurate. It was her job last night to remain neutral and moderate... Not to referee.
The economy is my main concern, but I was really hoping to get a clearer picture from both candidates in regards to their personal view on what happened in Libya and how it was handled. Unfortunately, Candy sidetracked the conversation.
Are you kidding me with this poll? Found 6 that shows Romney either ahead or tied with President Obama. Now, I like to consider myself a independent voter, but with reporting like this, you kind of make my decesion easier. I didn't believe the other pundents when they said that networks would report that all is well now, because Obama had a good showing. Let me say that again "Good" not great! This poll is inaccurate, and I believe Romney will win in a land slide.
Clearly, Ms. Crowley was showing her bias when she disputed the accuracy of Romney's assertion. Her job as a moderator is not to provide an editorial of her opinions. While she is now admitting her error, it is being made to a very limited audience compared to the millions of viewers watching the debate.
Candy Crowley, Soledad O' have lost all credibility in reporting the news. They are so biased it is sickening. it is sad when Anderson Cooper is the only legitimate journalist at CNN
Whatever political flavor you may be, it looks like this will be Candy Cowley's first and only Presidential moderating appearance.
It is awful how the mainstream media favors Barack Obama. A man who has done nothing for this country the last 4 years and who hates this country as well as his hidious wife Michelle. Obama is a man who apologizes for this country. Last night's debate was all planned by the mainstream media.
I really hope that when voters cast their ballots on November 6, they'll vote for Governor Romney, a man of dignity.
Candy Crowley made a fool of herself. But God is watching.
I was originally concerned when it was announced that Candy Crowley would be the 2nd Debate moderator. However, I felt that she did a very good job of being neutral during the debate. She had to moderate two very driven men and keeping Romney in his chair and on to the next issue was not an easy task. I thought Romney was very rude to both Candy and to President Obama. Afterall, he is the President of the United States and deserves respect. Romney demonstrated that he is arrogant and out of touch with middle American needs. Just because you can boss people around at your business, does not make you eligible to preside over the country and have to negotiate your way around this dangerous and fragile world. Big talk for a guy who left his MA state in a mess and his constituents there will not even vote for him.
Well how nice of Candy to try to "un-ring" the bell after she put her 2 cents woth of bias in for Obama. Yeah, its just great to do your thing in front of millions and then re-cant on CNN in front of all43viewers. You should be ashamed of yourself and resign. You did it on purpose to further your liberal agenda and score points for the empty suit known as Barry O. No wonder no one watches you people anymore..report the news and quit trying to make it !!!
Candy should look up the word moderator. It is not the same as participant. And in fact, she was wrong. Add to that, she chose 11 questioners, of which only 4 were men. Was she trying to be blatant about focusing on women's issues?? Women should be just as concerned about the econmony and national security (without which you can kiss the economy goodbye), as every other citizen. She chose poor questioners, poor questions, asked too many questions of her own, and inserted herself into the debate. If she's ever asked to do one of these again, we should all demand that she decline.
All i know this county is real close to electing a 50% president. He as said that the 47% of the people don't matter. So i guess he isn't going to represent them. That means he is going to be the president for only 50% of the population! Shame Shame!!
Ms. Crowley should NEVER moderate another debate. She appears to be a nice person but is very unprofessional. No wonder CNN has gone down in the ratings. Fox and others at least try to be fair. Ms. Crowley makes no pretence at being fair. Please do subject us to her as moderator of ANYTHING in the future. Thank you. Jim Monaghan, 10-17-12
Crowley's statement was out of line and I believe exposed her own bias. That said, I thought she did a generally good job. Certainly better job than the moderator of the last debate.
It is ironic that Obrian, who showed her bias with Mayor Giulliani is interviewing Crowley, who proved her's to the world by interjecting with a lie.Republicans should not have to put up with prejudiced moderators.
BTW, it is pitiful that our President has to be rescued.
You disappointed me, Candy Crowley. I thought you would be a great debate moderator. I felt you would be able to leave your liberal views at home. If anyone could be fair, I was sure you could be. Wow, WRONG.... Someone should have given you some lessons on what your job was. It certainly was not to be judge and jury over Mr. Romney. And his facts were correct after all. That's what angers me so much. I was one of those undecided voters and tried to get some information from the debate, but I think I will change my affiliation from democrat to republican. At least they are honest for the most part, AND FAIR. I've not seen much of that where Obama supporters are concerned. I overlooked it last election and went for "change'. This time I think I'll vote for REAL change. Hopefully, we will get that.
Just wanted you to know how much of a disappointment you were. You should be ashamed really.....
I will be 83 this month and I have always followed politics very closely. However, I have never seen anything so blatenly wrong as what I saw Cand yCrowley pull off last night. She should never be allowed to moderate a debate again. She knew what the rules were and she broke them. I actually felt sorry for Romney as it two against one.
Candy was totally out of line and leaned totally towards Obama. She was to be a mediator NOT a Commentator! She crossed that line, and it was very obvious she was prepared to do this. She halted Romeny's comments over 20 times, but allowed Obama to go on and on with only 8 or 9 interruptions. Also one sided. Also the actual time given to Romeny was short of the time Obama got. Give these facts, Romney stood his ground and held his own, and with statments of truth and facts. It was obvious Obama side stepped the Rose Garden comments, he was grasping for a response, when he said "continue" to Romney, and that is when Candy interceded..... perfect timing in Candy's support of Obama. It saddens me, but truth, honesty, and moral ethics will prevail. Romney will keep doing well and bring our country back to a place of strength and respect. Furthermore, Hiliary is a scapegoat and what a shame to do this to her! She do9es not deserve this.
Candy Crowley all of a sudden became a fact checker in the middle of the debate and testified for the president in an out right lie. Fact checking is not the moderators job, in front of millions of people she testified falsely for the president only to retract it here on a website read by far fewer people. She is a disgrace, she is biased and unworthy of the title of journalist. She might as well join the president's reelection campaign. Nothing she can say or do can fix the damage she has done, she never be counted upon for any unbiased input.
I guess I should not be surprised that CNN will not allow a negative comment when one is certainly due. CNN has been my favorite news channel, however, during these debates, it is evident that this news office favors and is partial to liberal ideas. Crowley certainly portrayed that during her duties last night.
I believe the moderator in the debate should be a neutral figure. Clearly the moderator in the first two debates have been extreme lefties and more or less pulling for Nobama to come up with a sensible reply. I am 45 and I remember moderators being strict with candidates, telling them to stick to the questions. In both debates, the President did not answer a single question. His answers were non-sensical sound bites or stump speeches, mainly because the guy has nothing to say. His cliche'd responses made me cringe, every time he was challenged on his record (ahem, or lack there of). The President would go into a tirade as to what he will do in the next four years, never addressing the question and never addressing his dismal record. It is bizarre, almost like the last 4 years never took place. Never in the history of the United States has a president been re-elected with unemployment over 7%, let alone for all 4 years of his presidency. Never have I seen a president come up with more excuses as to why he failed, the blame it on the Bush administration ship sailed 4 years ago. When will you stand up and admit your short comings? I believe he would be better off if he addressed the American people from this perspective vs. blame it on Bush and Romney is a liar. I wish I was able to answer for Romeny the rebuttal when the President questioned Romney's private sector record! Who is the President to question anyone's private sector record, How one created weath for himself and his investors, how he created jobs in the private sector when he has never had a private sector job! Well, except for his paper route and I am sure the President messed that up too. The presidential election will not be decided by voters flipping from one side to the other, the base on both sides is steady. It will be decided by the undecided voter. I truly hope this group analyzes this election, pays particular attention to each candidates record, has a clear understanding the direction this country is headed and where it will be with four more years of probably the worst president in the history of the United States of America. I bet Jimmy Carter has a sigh of relief, he can finally lose that title.
Hey Candy,
Hows it feel to be a voice for Obama. You were a disgrace last evening. You one of the reasons CNN is near the bottom of talk TV. Keep up the bad work.
Completely lost respect for you ms crowley. you should have at least read the whole transcript before the debate. there's no excuse. now a lot of ignorant bloggers are quoting you and the president as correct even though you're not. shame on you!
Amazing favoritism played last night. Not only does she support Potus during the debate, she also gives him an additional 4 minutes (10%) talk time. Also, how many times Potus the last opportunity to speak vs. Romeny.
Horrible and biased job by Creepy Crawley
Ms Crowley was way out of line when she said what she did in the debate
This debate was particularly frustrating because of how Candy Crowley interposed herself into the debate as though she was a third debater. She was totally out of order in her role as moderator, more than once asking leading questions of Obama after Romni spoke, paving the way for him to counteract Romni's statements. In doing so, gave Obama more than a whole extra minute than Romni in the debate. Finally, her taking a position (and a misleading one) on Obama's use of the word terror in the Rose Garden, when he was actually referring to 911 and not Benghazi. Candy claims she was only trying to "move things along." She clearly had not prepared herself for how she was to properly conduct herself for her role as moderator. Amazing!
Candy Crowley was outstanding as a moderator in all respects. The attack on the consulate was always denounced and deemed an act of terror. It took place at the same time demonstrations against US embassies around the Islamic world erupted in protest over the anti-Islam film, which took place in so many countries at once the mass demonstrations themselves looked coordinated. Yes, the administration was sensing an organized connection between all those events, but no one except the perpetrators knew exactly who organized what, and while the administration's reportedly has leads on some of the perpetrators, we may never know who planned and coordinated what parts of these events. The GOP mistake is in thinking they can turn Benghazi into a wedge issue at a time when there should be non-partisan support for the administration's efforts is going to smell like old fish by election time.
I felt the moderator chose more questions that favored the President including the one about the Lilly Ledbetter bill. The premise of the question that women are paid far less for equal hours has been debunked but it is still a favorite talking point of the left. The instant fact check on Libya by the moderator was factually incorrect and defies belief since we all saw and heard for weeks that the administration including Obama on many occasions tried to convince all of us that the you tube trailer was responsible for the deaths of our ambassador and the others. A blatant lie and it is ridiculous that any "journalist" would allow it to stand. Also, if you fact check one item then do them all as Obama misrepresented the truth several more times in the debate. Apparently, it is okay for Obama and his campaign to impugn the integrity and character of Romney even though Obama is the perpetrator of lies, deceptions and half truths regularly.
Last night was not a debate it was a gang rape of Mitt Romney by the operator, who injected herself repeatedly interrupting Romney, giving Obama 4 additional minutes and LYING about the facts of the White House statements. CRowley LIED in the selection of the question regarding women's pay. There is no data regarding this according to the USG. This was no debate, it was a free for all . Being an effective moderator takes self discipline and training, it is not an intern position. The Presidential Commission is a travesty on the American voter, as the League of Women Voters pointed out in washing their hands of this fraud. The League is. A left. wing. liberal organization!
candy should at a minimum be banned from moderating. if she or anyone in that position worked for me they would be disciplined or terminated. completely unprofessional.
Candi should be fired! Anyone that has watched the news know Obama did not call this terrorism. Her job was to mediate the debate not get in it. Correcting her mistake later isn't good enough. If she and CNN want to support Obama (which is obvious) then declare it and be honest about it.These debates are a waste of time!
I think she had know right to get in the debate at all and for allowing Obama to go wat past on his time aswell was setting up romney for a loss she new the rule's and she broke them so she should be canned !!!!!!
Mrs. Crowley was out of line with Libya comment to Romney, She is supposed to stay out of the argument. The fact is Obama has lied to the american people about what happened in Libya for two weeks and now they are trying to cover it up. He a real man for letting Mrs. Clinton take the fall for him.
Candy should not be considered for any future debates. She did not act as an unbiased journalist. She was wrong to become an referee and throw a penalty flag and she made a bad call, just like the temporary NFL refs. She was bias cutting off Romney during key decussions and gave Obama extra time. I thought that CNN was trying to become the unbiased news channel. So far, you are failing.
I watched the debate and was totally disgusted with Candy Crowley as the moderator. She constantly belittled Romney, cut him off and then when she injected herself into the debate with the whole Benghazi terrorist statement (which by the way she was completely wrong) – I had to turn it off. I'm so sick of the media cheerleading for Obama. Grow up and do the job you were hired to do, or don't do it. I am so done with CNN – Crowley, Soledad and most of those working at CNN are puppets of the Democratic Party. It's sad that they don't have any integrity to the profession (unbiased reporting) they are supposed to be representing.
I have always respected and appreciated the professionalism and thoroughness of Candy Crowley as a journalist. It is unfortunate however that she misrepresented the facts when she stepped in to incorrectly defend President Obama during last night’s debate.
To put things in context the speech in the Rose Garden was made by the President and the terrorist reference was to the 9/11 anniversary, Walter Reed Hospital, our troops and the loss of our ambassador.
The below portions of the speech are relevant and start with the following:
“Of course, yesterday was already a painful day for our nation as we marked the solemn memory of the 9/11 attacks. We mourn with the families who were lost on that day. I visited the graves of troops who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan at the hallowed grounds of Arlington Cemetery, and had the opportunity to say thank you and visit some of our wounded warriors at Walter Reed. And then last night we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.
As Americans let us never, ever forget that our freedom is only sustained because there are people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases lay down their lives for it. Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those, both civilian and military, who represent us around the globe.
No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for.
Today we mourn for more Americans who represent the very
best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.
To be clear, President Obama never stated that the Benghazi attack was a terrorist act and furthermore in a speech at the UN he referred to the YouTube video six times during his speech. His lack of leadership and accountability is palpable and it took Hilary Clinton to step in, take the hit, and the requisite accountability where the President could not. Truly disappointing all around. .
Romney doesn't stand a chance to win debating two people at the same time. That cow should know her place and relize she is a moderator and not debating. And by the way it did take days for the obama to admit it was a terroist act. I can't believe how liberal the media is. Can't any of the media outlets just report the news and not their own political agenda? If obama can't win this election with all this free publicity he is even a bigger failure than i thought.
Candy Crowley interjected and validated a blatant lie to millions of people watching the debate (that Obama called the attack an act of terrorism in his rose garden speech). Those millions who heard that lie will then will go about their lives believing the lie. Mentioning that Romney was right after the fact on a program with less than a million viewers does not, in my opinion, absolve Crowley or CNN of journalistic misfeasance.
She has no shame lying in front of the country to support the president. They been lying and covering up from day one. She shouldn't call herself a journalist. If she has any pride she should resign and go work for her beloved community agitator.
I'm not suggesting that CNN fire Ms Crowley, but her coming to the President's defense shows her bias and losses credibility as a journalist and now her presence on CNN should be as a pundit
The fact that Crowley interupted the governor 29 times to obamas 6 was disgusting. She should have been reading a think progress blog during the debate might have seemed less biased than she seemed to me. For her to say that the admin. had declared the Benghazi assault an act of terrorism was not only a mis statement of the fact it was a slap into the face of journalists everywhere. What would have been said if Bush lied over the caskets of 4 dead Americans by miss Crowly? She did however show the American people just why CNN is dead last in the cable news ratings and will remain there.
As uncommitted voter, I know one thing as two sides will be going back and forth on this. Crowley will NEVER moderate any presidential or vp debates in her career as "journalist". This thing is for sure. Cant keep your mouth in check for 90 minutes, thats what you get.
Back to partisan bickering.
Candy Crowley was out of line. A debate moderator should never ever stop a discussion and take a side. Even now, a day later, she stumbles trying to restate what Obama said in the Rose Garden. How was she so sure what he said when she butted in last night? It's very clear to me she has taken sides. That is inexcusable. Perhaps her next job should be as a replacement ref in the NFL.
Romney interrupted Candy Crowley many times and she let him go talking. . When the President tried to do that she told him she has to move it along. That was unfair. I feel llike the President was disrespeted a little bit. And Romney continued
with his lies. So sad.
Candy , You can apply for the next Secretary of State position when The President gets reelected. Since you have already made a deal !! I pity Romney he has to debate two Democrates CANDY and Obama.
If Crowley is this fair moderator, why was Obama allowed almost 4 more min. ??? The one thing a moderator could and should control is the agreed time limit!
I do not appreciate the Moderator being "part of the debate." You did not do your job, MODERATOR, not ADVOCATE!!!
Ms. Crowley clearly demonstrated that she was in favor of Pres Obama. She was disgraceful in her duties. She should be fired from her State of the Union job. I will never watch her State of the Union program again!!!
I thought Miss Crowley was WAY out of line when she made her remark on the Libyan situation. The excuse she used was at best lame. She could have said a multitude of things to "move things along" other than her hideous remark which truly showed her bias toward Mr Obama. I am truly sick and tired of the "media's" love affair with Mr. Obama. Her unprofessionalism is untolerable and I hope she never gets to interview or moderate anything else. Just call me "sick and tired" of the liberal press............... Linda
Solidad O Brian is as disingenuous as Candy Crowley, who as a 'moderator', should never have taken a position on this topic. Once again, the liberal media is SO in the tank for Obama, they don't even recognize their stupidity. No wonder folks not only don't trust government; they don't trust the media either.
Candy Crowley is th main reason that most of the American public has lost all confidence in the media. For Candy to interject on the President's behalf was wrong. Ms Crowley should have taken pointers from Jim Leher and been a moderateor and not an advocate for the President. In addition the questions that were ask, which were picked by Ms Crowley ,teneded to help the President make his case. It's ashame when the press fails to do it's job. Shame on you CNN!!
Obama clearly stretched the truth as he did not specifically call Bengazi and Act of Terror he was speaking about "acts of terror wont stop the US etc.... I think everyone in the US is smart enough to see this outright deception. Obama was basically caught in a lie and Candy Crowley showed she was not a professional moderator but a Liberal who cant keep her place.
Crowley was wrong. Her choice of picked questions represents CNN overall liberal agenda. Soledad O'brien demonstrates her total lack of objectivity every time she speaks.
I thought it was ridiculous to see Candy put a stop to the point that Romney was making about the President LYING about the Benghazi event. If you saw the look on the President's face when Romney brought this up, like Gee, they've caught me on this–Obama looked very worried! Candy threw Obama a lifeline and got him out of a sticky situation, just like a liberal would. Candy was CLEARLY on Obama's side all night. I don't watch CNN and will continue to stay away from your station. It's staffed by liberals. Not a conservative in sight! I think the people sitting in that debate were NOT undecided at all. It was laughable really. I think the polls do NOT accurately portray the true feelings of the American people either. I think Mtt Romney is going to win this election. Everyone I know is voting for Romney!
Just because Pres Obama made the statement that "acts of terror" will not be tolerated does not mean that he or his administration treated the Libya attacks as an act or terror or even implied that they were. Taken in the context of the administrations’ actions for the next 2 weeks of trying to blame the attack on a spontaneous reaction to a 5 month old YouTube video, it's completely clear to any rational person that Romney's comments were truthfully presented. Pres did not call Libya an act of terror until after he made the US government look like a bunch of incompetent idiots. Candy's interruption was disingenuous and misleading at best and displayed blatantly partisan at worst. Shame on you again CNN.
Cady , You can apply for the Secretary of State position when Oama get elected. Since you have already made a deal !! I petty Romney He has to debate to Democrates CANDY and Obama.
Crowley proves again that she is an Obama whore! Just like CNN. No credibility left for you to salvage. I have watched you lie deny and cover up more than the nazis or commies ever did. CNN....Commie Nazi "news". Truth only as last resort. You better pray that O doesn't get re-elected. If he does, civil society will break down. Who then will be able to save you from us?
I thought she was the moderator, although I have no love for the republicans she should have kept quite and not play politics and for what I been reading afterwards she was wrong
Why would Candy say that Obama called it a terrorist attack immediately when we all heard his whole administration keep pushing the film story for nearly 2 weeks? Romney was right in his first statement that you all loved to attack and I thought Hallelujah! He speaks clearly and in a way that we can all understand and he is right and sounds like a president. I was thrilled that he spoke up. We are tired of the cliches, sarcasm, statements that mean nothing.
Ms Crowley was truely bias in the debate. I thought she would take pride in being the first women to moderate a debate, but she let her views get in the way. She was not in the debate as a fact checker, nor one to insert her thoughts and recollections.I am truely disappointed, she made all women look bad.
To Candy Crowley: Candy, I've enjoyed your "State of the Union" program for quite a while but I must insist that your blunder at the debate last night was significant and you need to own up to it. First, you interupted Romney when he was calling Obama out of a false statement. Secondly and worse, when you interupted him you backed Obama on his false claim. It is VERY clear in the transcripts of Obama's Rose Garden press conference that he did NOT tell the American people that the Lybia attach was an act of terror. The President told a falsehood and you agreed with him to great applause from the audience. You advanced his falsehood on a subject that is becoming the great scandal of his administration. Please reflect on this seriously and realize that the proper thing for you to do is to come out and do three things. One: admit that you got it wrong, Two: admit that you interjected yourself too far in this particular case and, Three: appologize to the American people and Romney for this mistake of yours that advanced a false narrative that unitentionally appeared to show bias towards Obama.
I've always thought you may be a purist journalist who wants to be unbiased. I need to see an appology from you, far beyond what you said on Solidad's show or else I'll end my viewership of your "State of the Union" Program. Thanks for your consideration on how serious this mistake of yours show be treated..........Robert
THIS IS A COMPLETE BIAS, WAY TO MISS THE STORY COMPLETELY.
I cannot believe anyone hearing Obama's speech came away believing he was calling Benghazi a terrorist attack and it's shameful that candy Crowley was blatantly being pro Obama then double downed on it the next morning.
Now JOHN KING is doubling down – that Romney was WRONG about the "acts of terrorism" issue. Are you kidding me? Candy Crowley should have been wearing her Obama T-shirt, she had no right in her role as a moderator to buttress Obama's argument, using her interpretation of the facts. Last night, Candy Crowley lost all credibility as a journalist .. today CNN is losing all credibility as an impartial source of news.
Let me help you understand why your ratings are tanking ....
Crowley should be ashamed of herself....What a biased production her moderation was...
I am not supporting any of the 2 parties in this point... I am ashamed in CNN, Crowley and both parties to be using this terrible attack on American soil as a political platform, we as a nation should never shadow the lives of Americans, This is a time we should come together not stand apart as a nation, as in 9/11 we did not blame the failed policies of the administration ! We came together as a nation, morned the dead and pressed the ones that attack us... Shame on all of you!!! Fox, CNN an any other un-American institutions that pursue this path...
Hello
What Candy Crowley did was journalistic malpractice. There is no other way to put it. She was there to ASK the questions, not ANSWER the questions on behalf of her guy. She allowed the President to have the last say on nearly every question, whether he was first or second. He had nearly 10% more air time than Romney and when she didn't see it "moving along" enough for the President, she felt a need to help more. She and O'Brien are not journalists but instead have become babbling women with a political agenda and a large platform called CNN. It was the lowest day for CNN and journalism – and that's really saying a lot. Very sad display.
Before the debate I was concerned since a lot of media hype said that Crowley planned to actively participate but my concern was unfounded. So far Crowley is by far the best moderator. She made things move along and didn't put up with the rambling, time wasting comments that have slowed and obstructed the previous debates. Also, it was refreshing to see her stop Romney and confirm Obama's comment regarding the Libya consular attack. For months Romney and Ryan have been telling falsehoods and it was about time that someone stopped it. Obviously voters are not bright enough to read and learn the facts, they are swayed by downright lies from the GOP. This time the moderator had the backbone to stop each candidate from rambling on into the others time. I did find it interesting that many of those in the audience were fidgety and bored when Romney spoke parroting nonsensical things that he's said in the past. Unfortunately Romney continues to attack the President instead of offering concrete policies of his own. Romney has flip flopped on so many issues that it's difficult to know what he will really do!
II find it very strange that there was not one question about Obamacare. Especially since Ms. Crowley hand picked the questions. It was a question I certainly would have asked!
Crowley wanted to come to the rescue of the President who she supports. It had NOTHING to do with "moving it along" or wanting the truth. Candy is a shill and has helped many see the bias at CNN toward the left. It's no wonder your ratings continue to tank. CNN is to the left what Fox News is to the right and it's disgustingly obvious.
Candy dropped the ball on this. She was out of line as a fact checker and moreover she was wrong. Clearly, Obama did NOT call it an act of terror, he said "acts of terror" in reference to something else. The tape says it all.
