Why did Candy Crowley interject on Libya in debate? She wanted to 'move this along'

This morning on "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien," CNN's Candy Crowley talks about her experience moderating the second presidential debate with Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama.

Many folks are talking about Crowley's statement that President Obama was right when he claimed that he called the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi an "act of terror."

"I was trying to move this along," Crowley says. "The question was Benghazi...there was this point they both kind of looked at me, you know, Romney's looking at me, the president is looking at me, and I wanted to move this along. Can we get back to the - so I said, he did say "acts of terror", called it an "act of terror", but Governor Romney, you were perfectly right that it took weeks for them to get past the tape."

See more in the clip above.

And by "move this along...", she meant the agenda of the left.

What I don't understand is how you can condemn Candy for fact checking right there on the spot while millions are tuning in. That is what we are all looking for..the facts.

Future moderators and the Presidential Debate committee should start implementing an element of fact checking DURING the debates, not days later when no one is watching.

It was absolutely her place. Thank you Candy.

Oh, I know that her blatant, prpObama intercession turned me off CNN. I long ago, pre 2008, stopped viewing MSNBC; never did Fox because of blatant views. I thought CNN was somewhat more even but Crowly using something like a debate before a huge audience (most of whom never heard of her) and showed her bias and support of Obamain what as a moderator should have been neutral. Bye CNN. She ruined my opinion of you.

"The blatantly disingenuous equal pay narrative that women make 72 cents on the male dollar when apples-to-apples studies show it to really be 95-96 cents on the male dollar. Sorry, comparing unskilled at-home day care workers' pay with that of skilled electrical engineers is not an honest comparison. " I'm confused- are you saying an "unskilled at home day care worker" really 95 -96 cents per dollar when compared with an electrical engineer ? Are you serious ? do you really think an at home day care worker actually has their salary compared to an electrical engineer and THAT is the disparity?! and btw-day care is not a flufff job.

Candy Crowley should be so ashamed of herself! We all thought that she was going to be fair and unbiased and she did not live up to that at all. Where is her integrity? She interrupted Romney so many times and even – I could not believe it – told him to sit down. Just when Romney had Obama on the ropes about Libya – she shut him down and lied about what Obama had said. To think that you could try to change the complexion of a presidential debate. Just remember Candy – What goes around – comes around. KARMA – This blemish will be on you all your life. It is so obvious that the Obama administration was not calling what happened in Libya terrorism but kept blaming the "video". Four Americans were murdered unnecessarily in Libya and you all are involved in covering it up instead of being responsible journalist and trying to get to the truth.

Miss Crowley is commanded by President Obama to "get the transcript Candy" and she conveniently had it in her hand at that exact moment. .If CNN does not fire her for appearing to have conspired with the Obama campaign and lieing about it afterwards and for costing CNN to loose viewers.and I am sure many people hold CNN responsible for what their employees, do,they will continue to drop in the ratings. Your main competition Fox claims to be fair and balanced. It is time for you to show that you are not committed to any political party. If you don't you will not survive much longer. Have a little courage and fire her now. Denise

Well, it sure was nice of Candy to decide that this was the one issue that she should jump in on to act as fact checker.

I wonder why she didn't challenge Obama's assertion that Planned Parenthood provide important services, like mammograms. In fact, they don't.

Selective fact checking.......and CN*N wonders why they're taking heat.

With regards to the candidate's Libya exchange, Candy Crowley couldn't help but display her bias for Pres. Obama. IMO, it was a blatant corruption of the debate process.
For approx. the past two years I have watched "State of the Union" on Sunday mornings; however, will no longer be watching. I'll probably miss the program; but it's the only protest I can make.

If she just wanted to move things along, why didn't she say "Actually you didn't say that Mr. President". That would have moved things along and it would have been accurate. She couldn't keep her ego in check and her bias stored. She ought to be fired. I'll never watch another debate that she has any role in.

Thanks, Candy, for the wonderful job that you did with the debate. As I understood it, participants were not to ask each other the questions. That had been violated and I have not heard any complaint.

I can't believe how dispectful Romney and other Republicans have been to this President–to the person and the position. I thought it was your job to determine who speaks. Thanks for doing a wonderful job. You make the women of America proud.

Nothing to see here - CNN, Candy Crowley, doing what comes naturally and often and that is being the protector, facilitator and propagandist for the progressive movement. Snakes bite because that is their nature - CNN's aiding and abetting the progressive movement- – Obama in this case – just comes naturally, as such bias is part of CNN'S DNA.

The issue to me is "journalists" becoming part of any story they are covering or participating in as moderator. It is simultaneously awkward and disgusting. Can you imagine Walter Cronkite or Edward R Murrow going on the gab shows the next day with this shameless promotion. IMO a pure journalist is invisible. I know it is difficult in this day and age of 24 hour news cycle but at least try. I'm not singling out Ms Crowley as she is likable enough, its just the entire news mess! I am so tired of talking heads interviewing talking heads!! Thanks I feel better now.

Why would a reporter interject that false and inflamatory piece of info that was so obviously intended to gain favor for her fave? Who so gratefully took the bone and laughingly thanked her for 'clearing it up'. That interchange was the most blatantly shameful of the few that occurred during the debate. Do you really think we are unable to discern the slant?

Days later the incorrect narrative is still out there, and only 4 people have commented thus far on the faux pas here. Reverse that with over 1,000 snide comments about Tagg Romney's rhetorical (and very human) response that he wanted to punch the president, and you can see where our current political state is and how far we've fallen. Certainly Obama's response to this attack is a bit more important than his opponent's son voicing frustration that he wouldn't ever act upon.

Obama is trying to cloud the issue. He's getting help from Soledad, and she knows it.. The polls are scary now for dems. Bottom line: If Obama labeled it clearly a terrorist attack, which we all know he DID NOT do in the rose garden, then he would have his Press Secretary state that clearly to the press. Clearly the press secretary whose job it is to speak for the president was told NOT to call it a "terrorist attack." Intelligence watched the attack on video, they knew it was a Terrorist Attack (that night). Being a few weeks out of an election, the White House panicked and attempted to stall the real facts coming out. Yes, Romney got caught up in confusion over the general mention by Obama of "acts of terrorism." But Obama never called this assault on our embassy a Terrorist Attack (until weeks later). He instead attacked our freedom of speech and advertised a little known film. Publicizing it, increasing its viewership. Soledad knows this full well. The president has been universally criticized and even accused of a cover-up. Axelrod is good. Look how he's orchestrated this fog and confusion. Look how quickly Soledad joins the act. Why is this important: 4 AMERICANS ARE DEAD AND AL QUEDA IS ALIVE AND WELL.

    To Mike is SA:
"unskilled at-home day care worker". I'd like to see you try to control, entertain, and educate a mischievous toddler while doing laundry, cooking, cleaning, and a load of other administrative responsibilities of a household requires. That's not accounting for the people who do it in organized centers with a dozen mischievous toddlers. My guess is you wouldn't last an hour before pulling your hair out. The larger point is you can't compare those skills because they are within a different skill set. That doesn't mean however, they are equally valuable to our society as a hold and deserve equal pay as such. I sure hope you respect your wife's role as a mother (if you have one) more than other women who perform comparable roles.

Apparently Ms. Crowley didn't think the President could defend himself on the question and had to step in to help him. As umpires in baseball often forget, this wasn't about you Candy. It was about the audience asking questions and the candidates interacting with respect to them. You were an unwanted and unneeded intrusion and if your goal was to be a "fact checker", you failed miserably..

The moderator position is like a referee n sports. Think about it. If this were a sport game like the NFL and the referee took a side. We would call that fixing a game. I believe that would be illegal. It also give that sport a lack of credibility. Well, the same thing happened on National TV in the Presidential debate. The moderator (referee) took a side. Was this fixed ? Did she and the journalist community lose credibility ? Sure looks like it. Just calling like most people see it.

Candy Crowley was hired to be the moderator...not a participant in the debate. Her remarks about concerning the Libya attack altered the debate and she would not let Gov. Some areas of concern: The latest unemployment application data speaks for itself. 388,000 new applications; 46,000 more than expected. Personally, I think Ms. Crowley is a true professional and good person. Did she misstep on more than one occassion; I would say yes. None of us are perfect. What's even more depressing is that we have these huge financial banking institutions buying up hoardes of oil stock that's contributing to the high price at the pump. These are the same folks that received this ridiculous amount of stimulus from the American taxpayers. We already have a legislation on the books that speaks to manipulating the stock market, yet nothing is being done about it. I have no idea what the actual percentage is of people on federal/state subsidy however, I imagine the number is extremely high. On immigration and energy independence, we have failed miserably for decades, and no doubt we will pay for it far into the future. The middle class (what's left of it) will always take the brunt of economic despair. One solution, of however many, is to change the tax system to a FLAT TAX of 10% for everyone. Example: You make $100 a week you pay $10, $1000 you pay $100, $100,000 ( I surely can't imagine however it's out there) you pay $10,000; PERIOD. All should contribute to this great country, not just some.

It was clear to me the Ms. Crowley clocked-blocked Govenor Romney while atempting to make an argument. Perhaps unintentional and subconscious in effort the bias nature of an indiividual, in this case a moderator, often manifests itself in its own way. Her attempt to recover almost on the same breath made it obvious that even she caught the err of her statement. It was an unfortunate consequence in light of being a Presidential debate.
