    Hi Dr. Gupta,
I just wanted to express my concerns on the legalization of marijuana. With this drug sight affects are not excluded.
Depending on the strength of the THC one could experience a bad bad trip resulting in severe panic attack and hallucinating. Your memory is severely affected I.e.putting your baby in the bath tub parent gets distracted and forgets the baby in the tub. I often wondered about those parents who forget their babies in the backseat of their cars and tragedy resulted. I also think about how marijuana will affect the mind as one gets older in relation to Alzheimer's .
Let's not forget for some children who start with this drug as their first choice how easily they become tempted to try another one. My next concern are medical professionals I.e. surgeons who indulges. Would you want a physician who uses this drug recreationally to perform surgery on you or your loved one? How are we as a notion going to keep up with the price that we will pay by legalizing this drug. I am not against medical marijuana however I really feel that those patients should have a life threatening illness. There half to be understood boundaries so doctors are held accountable for their choices. Lets do a study, take an individual that has been doing this drug for 10yrs.take them off. How do they respond? What do you begin to notice different about them? The intelligence of our children will be affected.
The ability of one to retain information for test or recall from reading a book will be affected. The laziness of our society in regards to working will also grow. This truly is a drug that we should not be playing with if we are wanting our nation to grow in the right direction.Families struggle enough with alcohol issues in their lives why would we want to exacerbate the problem. How will this drug affect unborn babies who's mothers indulge? To many questions and not enough answers.
    Let's not play with fire.

Hi Joy. I have to respond to you. I hear what your saying. I can understand how you feel. It's the same as drinking. Are you going to get drunk and give your baby a bath? Is every person who has a drink an alcoholic? Not everyperson who smokes pot is a junkie.... Would you light a joint and go drive you car with your children in it? Would someone smoke a blunt and then go operate a crane? Most likely not. And if they do they have a problem. Its not the drug its the user. When you take pain pills, which are very expensive and highly addictive, its a controlled substance It's still a drug even f its legal...... Coffee has more of an harmfull effect on the body than pot. And science has allready showed that. So lets not go there.
It's common sense. It's not a tough situation. Using logic.
The questions and hypothetical situation's your using as keeping MJ illegal, is what you and the DEA and other agencies have been saying for years. Its a stupid argument. Don't give kids drugs, don't give kids alcohol. Don't do surgery on something. And stoned or not stoned don't leave your children alone in a car, or forget your kids in a car. that has nothing to do with drugs that's just plain old bad parenting. End of discussion on that. The USA is crashing financially. We all know that its effecting the world. Like many other nations are struggling right now. The government spends over 20 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR in fighting Pot. (but if you cut your leg and need a doctor its going to cost you $500 for a bandage)That is Pot alone that is not any other illegal drug and sending many good people to jail for pot related charges.(now if your dealing crack and pot or other drugs, that is a different story so please done use that old excuse as a rebuttal)Marijuana related charges alone have backed up your court system for years and are costing the tax payers of the united states heavily. It costs 34000 a year for the government to keep someone in jail. Imagine what would happen int he USA if all of that money being wasted on preventing people from lighting a joint to relax, or are sick and dyeing. And if you took that money and reinvested it back into healthcare, the arts, child care, infrastructure. which is crumbling all around you. I think Joy you need to do a lot more research that is not bias before making a statement about something you clearly have no idea. Do pregnant mothers drink? smoke? do drugs? typically not so much..... So really using that argument again? Is this 1986? that is tired, and has been used time and time again. Beating a dead horse is not going to bring it back to life..... Is the US medical association going to condone smoking crack while pregnant? Chances are no. Now do some midwives prescribe MJ in a few states to pregnant women to lower blood pressure during pregnancy or delivery of babies. Yes. Stop getting your information off of the AA website, and really research this. Joy I implore you to really think about this. I can understand that yes If used incorrectly like prescription pills, alcohol, any thing that changes or puts you into an altered state while doing something that can hurt someone or your self should not be done. If you work in a safety sensitive position. No you should not smoke pot. No you should not smoke pot and drive your car. Common sense........
