US Army Under Secretary Dr. Joseph Westphal brings Thanksgiving to US troops in Afghanistan

Thanksgiving will be celebrated by 68,000 troops at bases across Afghanistan today. U.S. troops will enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, ham, sweet potatoes and pie. It’ll offer a rare taste of home for soldiers separated from their families, many of them on multiple tours of duty.

Undersecretary of the U.S. Army Dr. Joseph Westphal is taking time to visit with troops today to thank them for their service and to bring them words of encouragement during the difficult holiday season. Dr. Westphal is the second highest ranking civilian official of the Department of the Army, and he joins us this morning from the Forward Operating Base Pasab in Kandahar.
