Jordan Davis' father: Man who shot son has 'torn the fabric of our family apart'
The man who killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis in a Florida parking lot is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
45-year-old Michael Dunn is charged with first degree murder and three counts of attempted murder for firing into the car where Davis and three of his friends were sitting.
Dunn says he felt threatened by the teens after asking them to turn down their music and that he shot at them in self defense. There's word that he may use Florida's controversial "stand your ground" law for his defense.
Jordan's parents Lucia McBath and Ron Davis, as well as their attorney John Phillips, join Soledad on Starting Point this morning to discuss their son's death and their campaign against Florida's law.
"It's about loud music and it's also about anger, about having a concealed weapon in your car, knowing you have it and feel bold enough to use it because you're being shielded in the state of Florida.," Davis says. "They tell you if you have a concealed weapon these are some of the things you can do. If you feel you're threatened in any way, then you are allowed to use your weapon."

All – Please, please, please share my blog. What I don't understand about this senseless killing in Florida and Newtown and all others is that everyone is dismissing the parents in all of this. What you will find is that ALL OF THESE PARENTS KNEW THAT THERE KIDS HAD PROBLEMS AND DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT IT...I'm tired of everyone questioning and blaming ONLY the gun laws, President Obama, other elected officials, etc. Caring for the children starts with the parents paying attention to their kids. THE PARENTS NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FIRST!!! COME ON PEOPLE – STOP GIVING THESE PARENTS A BREAK AS THEY KNOW THEIR KIDS ARE MENTALLY ILL!! This just makes me sick!!! IT STARTS AT HOME PEOPLE!!! Stop letting your kids lock themselves in their rooms and tell you not to enter, etc....THAT'S A SIGN!!! Why would a parent train their child, who has ISSUES, to operate fire arms? ...and why would families need those types of weapons...to me I think families like that need to be questioned about their mental capacity!!! Connie Mack and those of similar views need not be on the early morning show at this time. So political, so smug and not open to a new way of thinking about guns and mental illness. We don't need this negativity at this time. The women with him (his wife?) seem to know more about mental illness.

I watched you this am and saw the genuine pain you had for these families. Policy debates on gun control are redundant, the second amendment takes care of that issue.
The common denominator in all these tragedies (i.e., NewTown, Conn.) Is an incipient psychotic mental break.
We have financial depravation, cultural deficiencies and environmental damage that is promoting mental illness to a degree higher than it ever has been. There is your policy debate.
I’m just an old grandmother, but it seems to me the policy debates we should be having is about prevention, identifying and treating mental illness that is the root cause.
Mental health teaching, access, and treatment on a long term basis must be available to all communities.
If we have no confidence in the leaders of our country to be able to pass a simple budget how on earth will we ever have any faith in our government that they can develop a policy fix the mental health issues that have been created by their great and many incompetences. God help us all.
