Researcher says 'feeling' led to discovery of Richard III remains

London (CNN) - Supporters of King Richard III want a just-revealed reconstruction of the monarch's head to bring a human aspect to a leader portrayed through the centuries as a murderous villain who butchered his way to power.

The Richard III Society commissioned the reconstruction - which was unveiled before media in London Tuesday - after remains believed to be those of the medieval king were discovered under in a parking lot in Leicester, England.

Scientists announced Monday that DNA testing had established that the skeleton was indeed that of Richard III.

This morning on "Starting Point," Richard III Society's Philippa Langley explains the 'feeling' she had in searching for the remains, and how DNA matching & carbon dating helped confirm the discovery.

"We could tell by the street signs that we were in the right area for the Greyfriars precinct, but we didn't know if we were in the right area for the Greyfriars Church," Langley says. "I had this very strange experience where I felt I was standing on top of Richard's grave and there was an 'R' marked into the tarmac. It was just a hand painted 'R' for 'reserved,' but when I had the feeling, I felt that I was standing on his grave right by this letter 'R.' So, when we then outlined the trenches, that letter 'R' was in the first trench and in the very first few feet of the first trench, and we actually found him on day one.”
