Ice-T makes directorial debut with documentary 'Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap'

You might know Ice-T as an actor, playing Detective Fin Tutuola in "Law and Order Special Victims Unit". You might also know him as a rapper, with songs like "Colors" or "OG."

Now he's making his directorial debut with a new documentary, called "Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap." The film features interviews with dozens of musicians, including Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Nas and more.

Ice-T drops by the "Starting Point" set to talk about this latest project and the influence rap and hip-hop has had on American culture.

"It's a culture that's basically gone global," he says. "Everybody is part of hip-hop now. People don't really know where it comes from. So I said this is my chance."

"Once you see this film, it will give you the history of where it came from and how serious it is to the artists that are involved in it," he adds.
